About The Position

This Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for managing and directing occupational safety compliance, environmental compliance, workers’ compensation compliance, training programs and occupational health issues affecting manufacturing Associates at the manufacturing plant level. This position is the direct interface between associate safety activity and management teams.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required with 5-7 years Industrial Safety Experience
  • Knowledge of: OSHA/EPA regulations applicable to General Industry/Construction
  • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene, Labor Relations, Loss Control, Basic Engineering Principles
  • Knowledge of state specific Workers’ Compensation Law/Regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with conflicting workload requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred with 3-5 years Industrial Safety experience or combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, build and maintain strong professional relationships with plant management teams functioning as their subject matter expert in all areas of safety and environmental compliance. Travel requirement approximately 10%.
  • Be a Local Subject Matter Expert on all Safety or Environmental related issues, provides direction to plant teams.
  • Development and implementation of site-specific policies and procedures within corporate guidelines for assigned locations.
  • Conduct safety and health audits of facilities to evaluate compliance and identify areas of focus, communicates results to plant teams and corporate resources.
  • Assist/direct local plant activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provide training and/or training materials to Associates/team leaders on all regulated programs, document, and track training compliance. Ability to access, understand and administer safety training materials to supervisors, associates and management team
  • Lead the Accident Investigation team utilizing root cause analysis techniques.
  • Manage plant WC program and Corridor of Care program.
  • Proficient knowledge of OSHA’s Recordkeeping Standard 29CFR1904, Accident Reports, 300 Log & Form 301, keep logs up to date and maintains 5 prior years of documentation.
  • Conduct area safety inspections alone or with a group
  • Participate with teams to develop corrective actions for recognized hazardous conditions.
  • Effectively interact with medical clinics, nurse case managers and carrier representative concerning medical restrictions
  • Completes monthly reports and inspections then communicate in an effective manner.
  • Provide direction on waste minimization techniques through recycling/sustainability programs to ensure environmental compliance is maintained.
  • Establishes, directs and Chairs plant safety committees and their activities.
  • Any other duties assigned by manager.
