About The Position

The Senior Center Driver works under the close supervision of the Senior Services Director and performs a variety of routine semi‑skilled and skilled duties related to operating a delivery van for the daily delivery of meals to home‑bound and elderly individuals. This position plays an important role in ensuring the health, safety, and well‑being of senior clients while providing courteous and reliable service.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • One (1) year of driving experience, preferably with delivery vans or multi‑passenger vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of state traffic laws and assigned service areas.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation practices, and chemicals.
  • Some familiarity with the needs of senior citizens.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co‑workers, and senior clients.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License with a good driving record (DMV record required).
  • Ability to complete the following within two (2) months of hire: National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course American Red Cross Adult CPR Certification Standard First Aid Certification

Responsibilities

  • Drive a delivery vehicle on pre‑scheduled routes to deliver meals to elderly clients.
  • Review daily route sheets to verify accuracy of meal counts and special diet requirements.
  • Deliver meals and observe the general condition of clients, noting health or safety concerns and communicating them to the supervisor as needed.
  • Assist on the food tray line as needed to package and load meals for delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Department regulations, including daily hot and cold food temperature checks and sanitation standards.
  • Perform pre‑trip vehicle inspections and routine safety checks.
  • Clean and maintain vehicles inside and out, including fueling and monitoring fluid levels and tire pressure.
  • Maintain route logs, delivery records, and reports of daily route changes.
  • Perform minor custodial duties at the senior center, including cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, and trash removal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
