About The Position

The Senior Director of Tax Operations is responsible for overseeing the preparation and review of US Federal and State & Local tax returns while building and maintaining comprehensive accounting processes to ensure adequacy of our U.S. GAAP accounting for income taxes. The position is further responsible for implementing, training and the administration of technology for the purpose of collecting data used in tax reporting for compliance and financial statements purposes.
This position reports to the Vice President, Tax Operations and is part of the Global Tax team located in Cleveland, OH and will be an on-site role.

Requirements

• Must be a great accountant, able to bridge a highly complex operating business model with the legal entity structure in an effective manner and be able to coordinate tax accounting across an individual legal entity and global reporting structure
• Must be experienced in US and Foreign income tax rules
• Ability to prioritize on a real time basis
• Be able to collaborate effectively with peers, subordinates and superiors
• Analyze complicated issues and boil down to the key points, develop and implement action plans
• Must have strong managerial courage – ability to make the tough decision and to not be overly sensitive (thick skinned)
• Be able to effectively play catch ball (idea/issue back and forth discussion) and think on your feet
• Will display and operate in a way that never compromises Ethics and integrity, and do so in a non-political manner
• BS or BA Degree Accounting required; MBA / Master of Taxation Degree and/or CPA are strongly preferred
• Substantial operational experience in increasingly responsible financial leadership positions in a complex, global enterprise
• Significant international experience is required along with a strong global business perspective while functioning in a multinational organization with multiple business units
• Hands-on proficiency in tax technology (Corptax/Onesource), IT skills and process automation is a necessity
• Experience with tax planning strategies and implications related to financial reporting, including FIN48
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage financial tax activities across multiple locations/countries
• Install and improve processes to accurately forecast financial results
• Conduct detailed business and financial analyses to identify potential problems, determine root causes, and recommend appropriate solutions
• Travel Requirements: Up to 10% travel, overnight, within territory or locations

Responsibilities

• Manage, simplify and standardize the tax compliance requirements in a way that they can be deployed consistently on a global basis
• Collaborate closely with the tax planning team to assess US tax compliance impact of planning strategies
• Work closely with Tax leaders in conducting detailed financial and business analyses to identify opportunities, determine root causes for problems and recommend appropriate solutions and to ensure proper treatment from a tax compliance and accounting perspective
• Develop a process to efficiently and effectively communicate tax changes to the organization and assist in other tax and financial accounting processes
• Drive the use of the Danaher Business System and continuous improvement within the Tax Organization
• Accurate and timely consolidation of all US financial information for tax disclosures
• Accurate and timely coordination of all US operating unit tax forecasts for ETR purposes
• Monitor/model/apply US tax law changes
• Minimize surprises through effective prevention and early communications
• Develop Tax personnel to grow professionally (approximately 20 tax professionals)
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Senior leadership team at corporate offices as well as global operating unit leaders
