About The Position

We’re looking for bold, entrepreneurial talent ready to help build something extraordinary — and reshape the future of building products distribution. QXO is a publicly traded company founded by Brad Jacobs with the goal of building the market-leading company in the building products distribution industry. On April 30, 2025, QXO completed its first acquisition: Beacon Building Products, a leading distributor in the sector. We are building a customer-focused, tech-enabled, and innovation-driven business that will scale rapidly through accretive M&A, organic growth, and greenfield expansion. Our strategy is rooted in delivering exceptional customer experiences, improving operational efficiency, and leveraging data, digital tools, and AI to modernize a historically under-digitized industry. The Senior Director of Sales Engineering is a senior commercial leader responsible for transforming complex project demand into qualified, executable revenue opportunities. This role leads the project pursuit engine—owning early customer and sales engagement, disciplined scoping, and end-to-end execution from intake through quote delivery. Partnering closely with Sales, Revenue Operations, Pricing, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Technology, this leader accelerates speed-to-quote, protects margin, and improves win rates while shifting the organization from reactive estimating to proactive, opportunity-driven sales enablement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading sales engineering, centralized sales support, sales operations, or enablement functions in complex, project-based sales environments
  • Proven success scaling teams, standardizing processes, and aligning execution with commercial strategy
  • Deep knowledge of exterior building products (roofing, siding, windows, decking, railing, doors)
  • Strong ability to interpret plans, specifications, and field data into accurate, scalable outputs
  • Experience with estimating, CRM, or takeoff tools in growth-oriented environments
  • Demonstrated strength managing complex, cross-functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented leader with strong communication and execution discipline

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Scale Sales Engineering
  • Build, coach, and lead a high-performing, project-based Sales Engineering team with clear accountability for accuracy, throughput, and service levels
  • Establish standardized workflows, estimating practices, quality controls, and operating rhythms
  • Own daily intake, scoping, prioritization, and escalation to ensure predictable cycle times and balanced capacity
  • Own Estimate Quality & Execution
  • Oversee detailed material takeoffs and full-scope estimates across product categories
  • Define and enforce SOPs for review, approvals, documentation, and version control
  • Continuously improve estimating tools, methodologies, and standards to increase speed, accuracy, and scalability
  • Drive Early Engagement & Opportunity Advancement
  • Lead early-cycle engagement on complex and strategic projects to shape scope and solution design
  • Partner with Sales to prioritize high-value opportunities and align effort to conversion potential
  • Shift the team from reactive quoting to proactive pursuit of high-impact projects
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Margin Protection
  • Partner with Sales and Revenue Operations on pricing inputs, guardrails, and conversion goals
  • Collaborate with Pricing, Procurement, and Manufacturers to align estimates with supply and cost realities
  • Own estimating-related technology needs and enhancements to improve workflow efficiency and visibility
  • Enable Scale & Continuous Improvement
  • Build scalable processes to support growth, new products, and increased volume
  • Track and report KPIs including turnaround time, accuracy, revisions, and conversion impact
  • Standardize documentation and tools to eliminate tribal knowledge and improve forecast accuracy
  • Project Management & Lifecycle Ownership
  • Serve as the single point of accountability from intake through final outcome on complex opportunities
  • Manage timelines, milestones, dependencies, and prioritization
  • Lead cross-functional alignment and proactively resolve risks, scope gaps, and execution blockers
