About The Position

The Department of Subways is seeking a transformative leader for the newly created position of Senior Director, Safety Analytics. This role is central to our evolution towards a proactive, data-driven safety culture. The Senior Director will provide critical leadership and oversight to the Subways Safety group, establishing a comprehensive data analysis framework to enhance safety management across the entire department. The selected candidate will be responsible for overhauling current data collection, retention, and reporting methods to ensure uniformity and accessibility. By leveraging advanced data analytics, automation, and strategic reporting, this position will proactively identify risks, streamline safety operations, support compliance with all safety policies, and drive measurable improvements in both employee and public safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a preferred master's degree
• Major Field of Study: Safety Management, Data Science or Analytics, Business intelligence, Occupational Health and safety or a satisfactory equivalent
• 10 years of progressive experience in safety management, risk management data analysis or a related field.
• 5 years of managerial/ supervisory experience
• Demonstrated experience in establishing data-driven management systems, including the development of KPIs, dashboards, and analytical reports to drive strategic decisions.
• Proven ability to work with large, complex data sets, evaluate data quality, and use data to answer critical analytic questions and develop performance measures.
• Strong proficiency with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and external regulatory bodies.
• Exceptional leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead Data-Driven Safety Strategy: Build and direct a robust data infrastructure to inform all safety decisions. Overhaul and unify data collection and reporting methods across the department. Develop key performance indicators (KPIs), create dynamic dashboards, and generate detailed reports to identify safety trends and mitigate risks.
• Oversee Safety Programs and Compliance: Lead the Safety Hazard and Risk Prevention (SHARP) program, ensuring its effectiveness and relevance. Design and implement new, innovative safety initiatives to address identified hazards. Provide expert interpretation of divisional, agency, and governmental safety policies, including the Safety Goal Action Plan (SGAP).
• Conduct Field Audits and Analysis: Analyze organizational safety and operating processes to develop risk-reduction strategies. Execute a system-wide program of field-based audits and inspections, capturing data for analysis to proactively improve safety performance.
• Ensure Departmental Consistency and Optimization: Establish and enforce standardized guidelines for safety reporting and practices across all divisions to promote a unified safety culture. Analyze and optimize the allocation of resources within the Safety Division, using automation and data to enhance efficiency.
• Incident Response: Respond to emergencies, incidents, and accidents system-wide as required.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Develop clear reporting methods and serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders (divisional management, executives) and external partners (labor unions, regulatory agencies).
