About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President, Program Management, the Senior Director of Program Management supports the Strategic Program Office by driving the day-to-day execution of enterprise programs enterprise programs that advance Mount Sinai’s tripartite mission of clinical excellence, research innovation, and education, spanning clinical, operational, financial, academic, and technology domains.” The Senior Director of Program Management provides structure, discipline, and coordination across program workstreams and is a key driver of enterprise transformation. This role is as a central coordinator between project managers, workstream leads, and executive sponsors to support large and complex programs within the organization. They will also be responsible for providing oversight and managing the work of other Program Managers on complex programs. The Senior Director of Program Management is responsible for tracking/reporting progress, identifying and addressing dependencies, facilitating governance, and standardizing processes to assist projects in delivering measurable outcomes aligned with enterprise priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (healthcare, business, or related field).
  • 10+ years of work experience including 6+ years of direct project / program management experience in a health care setting.
  • Prior experience working in a management consulting environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex transformations and managing a portfolio of projects at a given time.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and technology needs across health systems.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to apply and improve structured methodologies and frameworks.
  • Experience with enterprise project management tools and practices (i.e., Microsoft Project).

Responsibilities

  • Program Management & Coordination Provide oversight of program managers within the strategic program office, assigning work, and ensuring alignment with enterprise transformation priorities.
  • Lead coordination for the largest and most complex enterprise programs overseen by the program office, characterized by multi‑year, containing greater than 5 projects, or of a total value to the organization of greater than $50 million.
  • Partner with clinical, research, and academic leadership to ensure program alignment with institutional priorities across patient care, corporate services, research, graduate medical education, and faculty development.
  • Coordinate work across project teams and workstreams, including external consultancies, aligning timelines, resolving conflicts, and managing interdependencies across projects.
  • Identify risks and issues in a timely fashion, identify proper escalation channels.
  • Make determinations on how and where identified issues and risks get escalated and follow through on mitigation progress as necessary.
  • Lead regular program meetings to gather real-time status, surface risks and issues, and drive resolution across projects.
  • Evaluate project plans and provide actionable feedback to ensure consistent quality, appropriate level of detail, and alignment with strategic program office standards.
  • Partner with finance and operations counterparts to obtain appropriate financial benefit tracking along with operational KPIs and leading indicators.
  • Governance, Executive Engagement, and Impact Measurement Establish and manage program governance structures, including steering committees and decision forums.
  • Create monthly dashboards that clearly communicate program status, risks, dependencies, and progress to executive and C-suite leadership.
  • Deliver clear, executive‑ready presentations to C‑Suite stakeholders, translating complex program details into concise insights that support strategic decision‑making and key issue resolution.
  • Make direct recommendations to program executive sponsor or steering committee to either mitigate risks or move the program forward.
  • Gain significant exposure to senior leadership through high‑visibility initiatives, with a demonstrated path for strong performers to matriculate into operational leadership roles within the organization.
  • Define, track, and report program-specific success metrics aligned to enterprise strategic goals, including clinical quality outcomes, research productivity indicators, educational performance metrics, financial impact, and operational efficiency.
  • Support post-implementation reviews to evaluate sustained performance and institutional impact.
  • Program Management Team Development Help build and scale the Strategic Program Office through the development and application of program management assets (i.e., playbooks, tools, and standards)
  • Enable projects within the Strategic Program Office to drive consistent planning, tracking, and reporting across projects comprising the program.
  • Review change management plans to promote sustainable, adoptable change in operational workflows.
  • Partner with operational leaders to transition program output into long‑term ownership and accountability.
  • Oversee and mentor program managers on large, multi‑workstream initiatives, ensuring high‑quality execution, consistent standards, and effective professional development.
