About The Position

Leads programs/initiatives to systematically improve the quality of management across engineering. Responsible for multiple areas of the business. Identifies technology gaps and opportunities in improving the product. - Strategic management of team with a multi-year vision for impact and health. Ensures this is aligned with, and communicated across the company. - Ensures teams are aware of and accounting for all stakeholders priorities in OKR planning, and are consistently hitting them. - Handles critical problems, decisions, and escalations in key deliveries.- Drives best practices and processes in design and operations in their teams and across their org, using metrics as appropriate to scale. - Works with their Directors and Staff Designers to ensure they have a plan for the next order of magnitude of scale. - Puts in place processes and practices to ensure customer satisfaction with the product. - Makes hard trade-offs of business opportunity vs people-cost vs sustainability. - Works with peers to solve alignment problems across teams; negotiating new ownership boundaries to achieve better outcomes. Only rarely needs to escalate to get "disagree and commit" closure, but does not shy away from doing so when misalignment can not be resolved. - Breaks down walls within their teams, and across other teams, to ensure all teams are working together happily for the company's good. Systematic in ensuring all managers under them are on top of growth, promotion, happiness and performance issues. - Identifies and creates opportunities to grow leaders, moving people to other teams if that's what it needs. - Takes a structured approach to determining headcount and organizing their teams, effectively prioritizing across them. - Personally and by influencing the team, promotes the engineering brand externally - e.g. writing blogs, speaking at conferences, etc. - Is the kind of leader who draws others to the company. Owns the strategic direction of the overall strategies and goals of the team.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 12 years and a Master’s degree.
