Read more: careers.bms.com/working-with-us . Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a strong leader for the position of Sr. Director, Research Services Procurement. The Senior Director will hold strategic procurement responsibility for Research Services, supporting biopharmaceutical research and collaborating with relevant external partners. This role is crucial in driving performance across research procurement categories, focusing on cost savings and optimizing supplier relationships, including those with small and diverse suppliers. The Senior Director will work closely with research leaders to support the company's revenue targets and new product pipeline. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing relationships, performance, and service level agreements (SLAs) with key strategic suppliers. As the Sr. Director, Research Services Lead you will be responsible for the development and implementation of category strategies supporting Research Functions: Chemistry, Biology, Animal Sciences, Laboratory Equipment and Scientific instrumentation supporting Discovery Research, Pharmaceutical Development and Cell Therapies through effective management and engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. You will support the delivery of category value targets, as agreed with finance and business stakeholders and endorsed by the Global Procurement Leadership Team (SLT). Additionally, you will take personal ownership of large and/or complex supplier arrangements and provide subject matter expertise to your extended team for other supply and commercial conditions. Success in this role will include: A proven track record in global R&D procurement within the biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and/or medical device industry and ability to work successfully with international colleagues in a highly collaborative manner and culture. A commitment to sustainable procurement practices and corporate social responsibility. Ability to incorporate newest technologies including the application of AI, ML and Generative AI as part of the category strategy.

Requirements

• Minimum education of a B.S./B.A. is required; M.S./M.B.A. preferred.
• Minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of international Biopharmaceutical business experience, with five (5) years in multi-disciplined procurement (sourcing or otherwise).
• Extensive knowledge of category management and advanced strategic sourcing methodologies.
• Demonstrated success leading global cross-functional project teams to generate material value across multiple complex categories.
• Documented experience leading cost reduction and value improvement programs.
• Proven experience leading large change management projects.
• Demonstrated successful leadership track record, including managing teams of senior professionals and managers, and establishing performance expectations.
• High flexibility and willingness to travel (air, ground both domestic and international) for various meetings at BMS and supplier sites.(<10%)

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge and proficiency with procurement systems such as Ariba is preferred.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CPM, CPSM, CSCP, CPIM) are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for multiple areas, ensuring alignment with the company's mission and objectives.
• Review, redline, draft, and negotiate complex contracts with minimal supervision for assigned, novel categories, and for complex contracts under the guidance of transactional attorneys.
• Lead cross-functional teams to ensure successful program execution.

• Ensure the delivery of value targets, as agreed with finance and business stakeholders and endorsed by the Global Procurement Leadership Team (SLT).
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, industry partners, and strategic suppliers.
• Monitor and analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging scientific developments to inform strategic planning.
• Prepare and present program updates, data, and strategic recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders.
• Support budgets and resources for the research functional areas and research procurement team, ensuring efficient and effective use of company assets.
• Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
• Perform supplier segmentation and develop robust supplier relationship management for key relationships and conduct regular business reviews to ensure delivery to expectations and target value.
• Establish value creation targets with key suppliers in partnership with business stakeholders.
• Ensure contractual arrangements incorporate compliance and performance against KPIs.
• Assess and mitigate risks associated with supplier relationships and supply chain disruptions.
• Drive cost reduction and optimization initiatives and identify savings opportunities within research categories.
• Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals and objectives.
• Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms and conditions based on fair market values.
• Work closely with R&D stakeholders and category management teams to understand needs and requirements.
• Collaborate with global procurement teams to ensure alignment and consistency in sourcing strategies.
• Facilitate communication and coordination between internal stakeholders and suppliers.
• Develop strong working relationships with key business stakeholders and administrative functions (finance, HR, Legal, Privacy, Compliance).
• Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain procurement governance frameworks to support decision-making and accountability.
• Monitor and report on compliance with contractual obligations and performance metrics.
• Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
• Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them achieve professional goals through individual development plans.
• Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Establish clear roles and responsibilities for the extended category team and communicate them effectively.
• Conduct performance management for direct reports and provide feedback for project-related resources.
• Develop a succession plan to support career development and ensure a talent pipeline.
• Identify and implement innovative procurement practices and technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize procurement processes and performance.
• Stay informed of industry advancements and emerging trends to maintain a competitive edge.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Communicate procurement strategies, initiatives, and performance to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the business, providing insights and recommendations on procurement-related matters.
