About The Position

The Senior Director, Portfolio Management & Strategy is responsible for shaping, optimizing and stewarding the Global Hospital &Biosimilars portfolio to maximize long‑term value , leveraging an integrated view of products, markets, and manufacturing footprint. The role drives end‑to-end portfolio performance management and providing objective, data‑driven recommendations to inform senior leadership decisions. This position requires strong systems thinking, the ability to create clarity in ambiguity, and the judgment to balance strategic priorities with operational realities. Core responsibilities include portfolio strategy development, comprehensive performance visibility, optimization analytics, and cross‑functional alignment with Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, and Market teams. The Senior Director is responsible for leading the GH&B portfolio strategy and end‑to-end portfolio management, ensuring alignment to enterprise priorities and long-term value creation. This role holds accountability for portfolio optimization recommendations, including investment prioritization, rationalization opportunities, and key trade-off decisions that guide leadership governance. The Senior Director serves as the steward of the integrated portfolio data backbone, providing transparent, reliable insights that inform decision‑making across GH&B. Success requires strong partnership with Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, and Market teams to drive coordinated, end-to-end portfolio optimization and ensure decisions are holistic, data-driven, and grounded in enterprise value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (PhD, PharmD, MBA, etc.) Preferred
  • 12+ years of broad pharmaceutical experience in commercial/Manufacturing/Finance/operations/strategy
  • The leader will be a strong self-starter with a proven track record of delivering results in complex and matrixed environment, leading and building resilient teams and driving impact through influence, collaboration and clear decision making.
  • Demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Strong capability in synthesizing diverse data into actionable insights and recommendations
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior leaders and governing bodies
  • Comfort operating at both strategic and operational‑decision altitudes

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Strategy & Roadmap Define and evolve the GH&B portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, category strategy, and long‑range growth ambitions. Establish and maintain a multi‑year portfolio roadmap that reflects market dynamics, financial value, competitive positioning, and network constraints.
  • Portfolio Performance Management Deliver holistic visibility to portfolio health by integrating cost, margin, capacity, quality, and market performance into a single view. Provide insights that highlight emerging risks, value opportunities, and strategic trade-offs.
  • Portfolio Optimization & Recommendations Lead portfolio optimization efforts to identify where to strengthen, simplify, invest, or divest based on value, feasibility, and strategic fit. Develop clear, scenario-based recommendations that articulate implications, risks, and required trade-offs for decision-making forums. Serve as a steward of enterprise value, ensuring decisions avoid siloed optimization and reflect end-to-end impact.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership Partner with Manufacturing to align network footprint, capacity allocations, and long-term supply strategy with portfolio priorities and future demand. Collaborate with Commercial, Finance, Market colleagues, and other functional partners to ensure coordinated execution and shared accountability. Support governance forums with structured updates, decision materials, and well-framed options.
  • Operating Model & Ways of Working Operate in a project‑based model using focused, 90‑day sprints to address the highest‑value portfolio questions. Embed rigor, transparency, and simplification in prioritization processes and portfolio conversations. Act as an advisor and thought partner to senior leaders, bringing objectivity, data, and clarity to complex strategic decisions.
