This position is on-site, 4+ days/week at OHQ, Rice Creek, or Mounds View Minnesota. As the Senior Director of Global Security, you will lead the enterprise-wide strategy to safeguard Medtronic’s global footprint. This is the most senior security leadership role in the company, reporting to the VP of Enterprise Risk and Facilities, and is critical to enabling our mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, International Relations, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military, or intelligence; with a minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.
  • Or an advanced degree and 13+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military, or intelligence; with a minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven success leading large teams (20+) in a multinational organization.
  • Experience with executive protection, crisis management, and enterprise risk mitigation.
  • Fluent English language skills – written and spoken; any additional language is a plus.
  • Must maintain a current and valid Passport, with availability to travel up to 30% annually.

  • Professional certifications such as CPP, PSP, CFE or equivalent.
  • Experience in the healthcare, life sciences, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience building and leading GSOCs and intelligence programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global physical security strategy across all regions and business units, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk management and business continuity.
  • Oversee physical security operations for all Medtronic facilities, including manufacturing, R&D, distribution, and corporate offices with close coordination with Facilities.
  • Direct the Executive Protection Program for the CEO, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors, including travel and residential security.
  • Lead the travel security program to ensure the safety of all Medtronic travelers and compliance with ISO travel security standards.
  • Manage the global crisis management program including, incident management, and threat assessment, partnering with Legal, HR, IT, Communications, Cyber Security, and Government Affairs.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing global security team, including regional leaders and third-party partners.
  • Lead the Risk Intelligence Center (RIC) to provide 24/7 monitoring, incident response, and situational awareness across the enterprise.
  • Oversee global threat intelligence and response, integrating open-source, commercial, and government intelligence to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and manage a geopolitical risk intelligence program, providing strategic insights to inform executive decision-making and protect global operations.
  • Drive enterprise-wide risk intelligence initiatives, ensuring timely dissemination of actionable intelligence to key stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain security technologies, including access control, surveillance, and threat detection systems.
  • Lead internal security investigations related to workplace violence, theft, fraud, loss prevention, and other incidents impacting personnel or assets.
  • Collaborate with HR, Legal, and Compliance to ensure investigations are conducted ethically, thoroughly, and in accordance with global standards.
  • Engage with global law enforcement and intelligence agencies to monitor and respond to emerging threats.
