About The Position

The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Georgia and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East. The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Senior Director of Global Clinical Services to serve as the organization’s definitive authority on clinical approaches to trauma rehabilitation. This role provides vision, strategic leadership, and clinical oversight across all global clinical programs, while representing CVT externally and advancing the organization’s credibility as a global leader in torture and trauma treatment. The Senior Director advances CVT’s clinical thought leadership, ensures the highest standards of care and innovation, and integrates clinical excellence with organizational strategy. Position open to: Candidates located in the U.S. who are authorized to work in U.S. and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa or, Candidates located in Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, or Uganda who are authorized to work in the country in which they are located.

Requirements

  • PhD in psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, or related clinical field.
  • Current clinical license in the U.S. (or equivalent credential internationally).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in trauma rehabilitation, mental health, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years in senior leadership or clinical program management in an NGO, nonprofit, or international setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and rights-based approaches to clinical care.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising multidisciplinary teams and providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience engaging with global partners, including NGOs, governments, and multilateral bodies.
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and build capacity in diverse cultural contexts.
  • Ability to manage direct reports effectively; including ability to develop rapport, build strong, trusting relationships and work cross-culturally
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Deep commitment to survivor-centered care, human rights, and equity.
  • Ability to balance global vision with attention to local realities and needs.
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and virtual collaboration tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working directly with torture and trauma survivors, refugees, or other highly vulnerable populations.
  • Demonstrated record of publishing, training, or presenting in global mental health or torture rehabilitation fields.
  • Experience engaging with donors, including foundations, government agencies, and multilateral funders.
  • Fluency in an additional language beyond English.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Contribute to shaping and advancing CVT’s organizational strategy, ensuring alignment of global clinical services with institutional priorities. Elevate CVT’s clinical work on a global stage through publications, conference presentations, and other thought leadership activities. Engage in knowledge exchange within global networks to strengthen CVT’s role as a leader in trauma rehabilitation. Provide vision and leadership for internal and external stakeholders, including global torture and trauma treatment programs. Collaborate with the Evaluation and Research Department and the Global Justice, Accountability, and Systems Change Department to develop integrated programming that holistically advances CVT’s mission.
  • Clinical Leadership: Serve as the organization’s lead clinical authority and final decision-maker on clinical approaches. Shape the clinical vision and Identify and set priorities for clinical interventions for development, implementation, scale-up, and evaluation, with emphasis on evidence-based models and research initiatives. Ensure alignment of clinical interventions with CVT’s overall clinical vision and consistency in primary outcomes across diverse contexts. Liaise with Evaluation and Research to develop and refine outcome measures and learning frameworks for clinical work.
  • Staff and Department Leadership: Foster a departmental culture of collaboration, learning, accountability, and staff wellbeing. Lead cross-departmental clinical discussion forums and communities of practice. Supervise, mentor, and support a cross-functional team of senior clinical staff and consultants.
  • Operational Oversight: Provide executive oversight of global clinical operations, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, compliance with policies, and integration across regions. Oversee the quality and consistency of clinical operations globally. In collaboration with Evaluation and Research, monitor clinical performance and outcomes, troubleshoot challenges, and provide technical guidance to clinic managers and clinical leads. Use data and learning to inform continuous improvement of clinical intervention content and implementation approaches.
  • Program Development and Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, including engaging in substantive discussions regarding CVT’s clinical models, evidence base, and strategic priorities. Oversee development of program proposals, budgets, and donor reports related to clinical initiatives. Support the establishment and long-term sustainability of survivor-centered systems of care in the United States and internationally.
