About The Position

The Senior Director of Development provides strategic leadership for all fundraising initiative including annual giving, individual giving, special events, corporate and foundation gifts, driving resource development and building and fostering relationships to advance the organization’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years of experience in a nonprofit development or fundraising role, including experience with donor management systems and event coordination.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license.
  • Proven track record of annual giving programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, with a detail-oriented approach to development and fundraising.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization, demonstrate flexibility with changing priorities, and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining CRM practices, processes, and systems.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to develop and effectively maintain collaborative relationships with a range of diverse donors, partners, and corporations.
  • Strategic thinking abilities with strong planning, organizational, implementation, and time management skills.
  • General computer proficiency, competence with office software, as well as experience with various fundraising and e-commerce platforms.
  • Ability to work outside of traditional business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, coordinate, and evaluate comprehensive annual giving fundraising programs, including but not limited to direct mail campaigns, special events, and digital fundraising initiatives.
  • Serve as a direct liaison to the association and branch staff and volunteers regarding fundraising activities.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and management of the Donor Perfect CRM system to support donor relations, marketing, communications, and organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement strategies for cultivating and soliciting donors for annual giving, as well as identifying and engaging potential individual, corporate, and foundation prospects.
  • Manage a major gift portfolio, overseeing stewardship and donor relations at the Association level, including vendor and partner relations.
  • Oversee affiliate e-communications related to fundraising.
  • Promote the YMCA’s programs and image by engaging business, industry, and community leaders to increase awareness of the agency’s programs and needs.
  • Coordinate community education activities, including speaking engagements, facility tours, and representation at civic and social organization events. Work directly with the public and community groups on projects that enhance the YMCA of Long Island's image and advance its objectives.
  • Participate in community activities, networking groups, and professional organizations to stay informed about trends in philanthropy. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Represent the Y at community events, branch board meetings and branch special events.
