About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a senior Medical Affairs leader to serve as the primary execution and operations partner to the Head of Medical Affairs. This role is accountable for enterprise-level program delivery, operational discipline, and financial oversight across Medical Affairs, ensuring that priorities sponsored by Medical leadership are executed with rigor, pace, and transparency. This leader brings deep project and program management expertise, combined with business operations acumen, and operates across complex, high-visibility Medical initiatives — including enterprise programs directly led by the Head of Medical Affairs. The role is intentionally focused on execution, orchestration, operational excellence, and expense oversight, working in close partnership with Medical Strategy & Operations The ideal candidate can demonstrate their strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, ability to work collaboratively, and act decisively to support the AIMS objectives and deliverables. Experience in leading complex and high-priority work in line with business priorities is a key skill for this role, in addition to being adaptable, collaborative, and motivated to find solutions and reach goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred (MSc, PharmD, MBA).
  • 10+ years of experience across Medical Affairs, healthcare operations, or enterprise program leadership
  • Significant project and program management experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrated business operations and budget oversight experience
  • Strong scientific literacy and credibility within Medical Affairs
  • Proven ability to partner with senior executives and operate with discretion and judgment
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and execution skills
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and managing multiple enterprise priorities simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the day-to-day execution lead for enterprise Medical Affairs initiatives sponsored by the Head of Medical Affairs
  • Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of complex, cross-functional programs across therapeutic areas and regions
  • Ensure clear ownership, timelines, and interdependencies across Medical initiatives
  • Drive disciplined project and program management standards across the organization
  • Oversee execution of high-visibility Medical leadership programs, including: External engagement platforms Medical Town Halls and leadership communications Enterprise Medical operating rhythms and forums
  • Ensure these initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with Medical priorities and compliance standards.
  • Provide operational oversight of Medical Affairs expenses, working in partnership with Finance and Strategy & Operations
  • Track budgets, forecasts, and spend across Medical initiatives and enterprise programs
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency, standardization, and cost discipline
  • Ensure financial transparency and readiness for leadership and enterprise reviews
  • Own and maintain Medical Affairs execution tools, templates, and playbooks
  • Ensure consistency and usability across therapeutic areas and regions
  • Drive adoption of standardized ways of working to improve efficiency and clarity
  • Partner with Strategy & Operations to align tools with operating models and frameworks
  • Track and report on enterprise Medical Affairs KPIs, milestones, and execution metrics
  • Build dashboards and reporting mechanisms that provide clear, actionable insight to Medical leadership
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying execution gaps and performance trends
  • Run Medical execution governance, operating cadence, and leadership forums
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready materials for the Head of Medical Affairs
  • Proactively escalate risks, trade-offs, and decisions requiring leadership input

  • Eligibility Disclosure: T he summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
