About The Position

This position serves to lead the education and content function of the Medical Affairs team and the Scientific Affairs team of the larger Medical Affairs department. The Medical Affairs team leads in the creation and review of clinical content and in supporting internal and external content and education efforts to facilitate incremental value in strategic growth channels. The Scientific Affairs team will function within a cross-collaborative team in identifying new and novel ingredients for use in Thorne new product development projects. This position maintains responsibility and oversight for the development, substantiation, and approval of structure/function claims for all company product offerings. This is a remote position.

Requirements

  • Health care practitioner; doctoral degree required, MD or ND degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of professional work experience with previous experience in medical affairs/medical education and clinical experience required.
  • Experience with GMP, FTC, and DSHEA standards required.
  • Broad-based experience in management of teams and responsibility for departmental management required.
  • Previous experience in dietary supplements industry strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for supporting the creation and review of clinical content and medical education programming designed to facilitate growth through agile, innovative, and forward-thinking methods.
  • Manages a content and education team that is responsible for the review of all copy and content produced by the company to ensure clinical accuracy and help to maintain DSHEA and FTC compliance of content and copy.
  • Leads a team of content creators who support the initiatives of the Sales and Marketing teams, and support product information, clinically relevant copy, and materials designed to facilitate sales and brand awareness.
  • Creates and manages all activities related to internal medical education, including training initiatives, ensuring accurate, relevant, and timely offerings for internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to determine medical education and clinical content needs of the Marketing and Sales teams and supports a content strategy to support Thorne’s mission and goals.
  • Maintains oversight of the Scientific Affairs team in creating a pipeline of new ingredients for consideration in new product development and existing product reformulations.
  • Will ensure that a pipeline of ingredients and concepts are maintained for a span of three years in advance and communicate strategy for new ingredient discovery to the department.
  • Provides scientific expertise and input in communicating product use to internal stakeholders across departments.
  • Responsible for the transfer of claims dossiers from the Scientific Affairs to the Medical Affairs team and ensuring structure/function claims are maintained in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Works closely with the Clinical Affairs division of the team to support in the exploration and expansion of claims through clinical and consumer studies.
  • Builds and leads highly performing Medical and Scientific Affairs teams, securing the best talent, developing, and strengthening staff and future leaders, and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous learning and provides growth opportunities through knowledge to teammates.
  • Leads and directs change within the greater Medical, Scientific, & Clinical Affairs function.
  • Conducts formal and informal performance assessments of staff, including performance versus expectations and goals, behaviors, and leadership potential, and seeks the same for self.
  • Functions as a key contributor to consumer and professional content/media such as Take 5 blog posts, product information sheets, wellness guides, research extracts, and additional medical/scientific content as needed.
  • Stays abreast of current literature regarding product development, related issues, and industry breakthroughs.
