About The Position

Solar Landscape is hiring a Senior Director, Markets & Policy to lead the company’s policy strategy, regulatory engagement, and program execution across its existing markets, while also supporting targeted legislative efforts to enable expansion into new states. As Solar Landscape continues to scale distributed clean energy deployment across the United States, this role will sit at the center of navigating and shaping the regulatory and legislative environments that underpin that growth. The Senior Director will focus primarily on advancing policy priorities in existing markets, while also leading legislative campaigns in select new markets where enabling frameworks do not yet exist. This is a highly cross-functional and externally facing role that requires both strategic thinking and operational rigor. The role will ensure the organization remains aligned and responsive to a rapidly evolving policy landscape, while driving coordinated execution across internal teams and external stakeholders. Over time, this role is expected to represent Solar Landscape in legislative and regulatory settings, including stakeholder meetings, public forums, and hearings. This role will report to the Head of Markets & Policy and will be based in the NY / NJ metro area, with an expectation of in-office presence approximately 3 days per week.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in energy policy, regulatory affairs, consulting, politics, or related fields.
  • Experience working in or alongside legislative, regulatory, or utility environments.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, distributed generation, or infrastructure development.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and drive outcomes in ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to track and prioritize multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability or clear potential to represent an organization in external forums, including regulatory or legislative settings.

Responsibilities

  • Policy Strategy & Execution (Existing Markets)
  • Lead regulatory, legislative, and stakeholder engagement efforts across Solar Landscape’s existing markets.
  • Develop and execute policy strategies to support program expansion, economic optimization, and long-term market viability.
  • Engage with regulators, legislators, utilities, and industry groups to advocate for Solar Landscape’s positions and priorities.
  • Policy Program Management & Internal Coordination
  • Serve as the central point of coordination for policy-related initiatives across the organization.
  • Track key policy developments, priorities, and timelines across markets, and communicate implications clearly to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage internal alignment across Development, Finance, Legal, and Executive teams, ensuring teams are informed and able to act on policy changes.
  • Support coordination and preparation for senior leadership engagement with external stakeholders, including meetings with regulators and legislators.
  • Legislative Campaigns (New Markets)
  • Lead legislative efforts to enable entry into new markets where policy frameworks do not yet exist.
  • Support drafting, shaping, and advancing legislation in partnership with external stakeholders, including lobbyists, trade organizations, and policymakers.
  • Navigate state-specific legislative and regulatory environments to develop clear, actionable campaign strategies.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to advance legislative priorities effectively.
  • Community Solar Program Execution
  • Oversee application processes for existing community solar programs, including cross-functional coordination across internal teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve application processes, timelines, and success rates through better systems and execution.
  • Ensure Solar Landscape remains competitive and well-positioned within program structures and allocation processes.
  • External Representation & Stakeholder Management
  • Represent Solar Landscape in meetings with regulators, legislators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support and, over time, lead participation in legislative hearings, regulatory proceedings, and public forums.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including trade organizations, consultants, and lobbyists.
  • Team Leadership
  • Manage and develop a team supporting policy, legislative, and program execution efforts.
  • Establish clear priorities, workflows, and accountability across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative team environment aligned with Solar Landscape’s culture and operating style.
