About The Position

LexisNexis Legal & Professional is seeking a strategic and analytically rigorous Market & Competitive Intelligence Senior Director to lead forward-looking insight and rapid market & competitive response across the AI- workflow ecosystem. This leader will own enterprise-wide Market & Competitive Intelligence for AI Workflows at both a strategic & operational level, ensuring early recognition of and response to emerging trends and issues, as well as rapid fast-follow response to competitive market positioning. The role will deliver actionable insights that will help shape product innovation, commercial strategy, pricing, positioning, and go-to-market execution in an increasingly Workflow-focused legal AI market. As generative AI, agentic workflows, and automation reshape legal work, competitive advantage is shifting from information access to workflow acceleration and decision superiority. This role will ensure LexisNexis understands not just what competitors are building but how they are attempting to redefine workflow speed, integration depth, and enterprise defensibility, as well as how they go to market and are driving audience and customer engagement. The successful candidate will not only tell us what competitors are doing but help define how Lexis Protégé should create sustainable competitive advantage in advance or in rapid response. This role is fundamentally about spotting trends early and raising the call to action quickly so LexisNexis can get ahead of market shifts or respond rapidly as they emerge.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in competitive intelligence, strategy, product strategy, market analysis, or related roles.
  • Experience in legal technology, SaaS, AI platforms, or B2B information services strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing AI-driven market disruption.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives with data-driven insights.
  • Strong understanding of how workflow automation and AI create competitive differentiation.

Nice To Haves

  • A legal background would therefore be a strong advantage, as would experience in the technology industry.
  • Legal sector experience or a legal background strongly preferred, with technology industry experience also a significant advantage.
  • Experience evaluating legal research platforms, legal AI tools, document automation, analytics, compliance, or workflow solutions.
  • Familiarity with law firm and in-house legal department operational challenges.
  • Exposure to M&A strategy or competitive due diligence.
  • Strong connectivity across the legal market, with an established network of senior industry relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive competitive intelligence framework across legal research, analytics, AI drafting, and workflow automation platforms.
  • Focus specifically on competitive positioning and evolution of AI-native legal workflow tools that compete directly or indirectly with Lexis Protégé.
  • Track competitors’ product launches, AI advancements, pricing strategies, partnerships, acquisitions, and go-to-market shifts.
  • Identify where competitors are attempting to win on: Workflow speed, Automation depth, Knowledge orchestration, Enterprise integration, Go-to-market (GTM) motion.
  • Spot emerging trends early and elevate clear calls to action that enable LexisNexis to move ahead of competitors or respond quickly to market developments.
  • Build and maintain strong networks with senior players across the legal market to generate advanced insight and strengthen early-warning intelligence capabilities.
  • Establish a rapid response capability for major competitive moves, product launches, and market shifts.
  • Deliver timely analysis and positioning guidance to Product, Marketing, and Commercial teams following significant competitor announcements or market developments.
  • Coordinate cross-functional response playbooks addressing: Competitive product launches, AI capability announcements, Strategic partnerships and acquisitions, Competitive market messaging, including response frameworks and message libraries aligned to claims and positioning from market competitors.
  • Maintain an always-on market sensing capability that enables LexisNexis to anticipate and respond to competitive threats and opportunities ahead of the market.
  • Analyze how AI-native entrants are reframing legal work around automation and agentic workflows.
  • Assess where workflow acceleration is creating real, measurable customer advantage versus marketing narrative.
  • Identify opportunities for Lexis Protégé to: Eliminate workflow friction, Increase research-to-drafting quality & speed, Enhance decision confidence and defensibility, Improve matter throughput.
  • Lead development of competitive positioning frameworks that clearly articulate Lexis Protégé’s workflow advantage in the evolving legal AI ecosystem.
  • Partner closely with Product & Marketing leadership to ensure new capabilities launch with strong market differentiation, clear value articulation, and competitive awareness.
  • Drive stronger market messaging around LexisNexis testing, adoption, and deployment of LLM technology, ensuring the organization communicates its progress with greater quality, quantity, and market impact.
  • Ensure the organization has clear, consistent guidance on how to position Lexis Protégé against emerging AI competitors.
  • Translate market and competitive insights into compelling external narratives that position LexisNexis as a leader in AI-driven legal workflow transformation.
  • Ensure content strategy consistently reinforces LexisNexis’ strengths in trusted legal data, enterprise-grade AI, and integrated workflows.
  • Help shape the external market narrative around how AI is transforming legal work and where LexisNexis leads that transformation.
  • Elevate the quality, quantity, and impact of LexisNexis’ market messaging.
  • Lead Content Marketing to develop thought leadership and insight-driven content addressing: AI-driven workflow transformation in legal practice, Productivity and decision-quality improvements enabled by AI, Emerging legal technology market dynamics, Competitive differentiation of the Lexis Protégé platform, LexisNexis’ testing, adoption, and deployment of LLM technologies in ways that reinforce market confidence and competitive differentiation.
  • Build scalable processes for competitive monitoring, synthesis, and dissemination across the organization.
  • Integrate multiple intelligence sources including: Customer insights, Analyst research, Product usage signals, Market and technology trend monitoring, Senior market relationships and external network intelligence.
  • Ensure insights are proactive, forward-looking, and strategically actionable rather than reactive.
