About The Position

Provides strategic and operational leadership for NJHA’s HIM services and related business lines. The Sr. Director is responsible for service development, marketing strategy, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and overall operational excellence of the division. Ensures the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and financially sustainable HIM services to member organizations and clients while identifying growth opportunities and developing new products and service offerings.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible Health Information Management (HIM) experience is required, including at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, service-line management, marketing strategy, and financial oversight.
  • Strong knowledge of coding standards, including ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, as well as healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic thinking and strong financial acumen are essential, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or relevant certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes the division’s strategic and annual operating plans, including goals, objectives, and budget oversight.
  • Identifies market needs and leads the development, launch, and ongoing evaluation of HIM products and service lines to ensure growth and financial sustainability.
  • Maintains business plans, pricing strategies, and contractual agreements to support profitability and long-term viability.
  • Oversees daily operations of HIM services, including medical record management, coding, documentation integrity, and release of information functions.
  • Establishes and monitors performance standards for productivity, quality, turnaround times, and customer satisfaction.
  • Reviews financial performance and implements operational or pricing adjustments as needed to maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Serves as the senior subject-matter expert on HIM, advising executive leadership on regulatory, operational, and technology trends affecting health information and data governance.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Oversees coding accuracy, documentation quality, audit processes, and related policies and procedures.
  • Directs marketing and outreach efforts, including educational programs, conferences, and industry engagement.
  • Leads sales activities, including client presentations, proposals, and relationship management.
  • Recruits, develops, and evaluates staff, promoting accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepares management and financial reports and ensures timely billing and payment in accordance with contractual terms.
