About The Position

The Senior Director (SDHS) serves as a pivotal front-line leader, overseeing all Health Systems (HS) field medical colleagues within their assigned region. This role is primarily focused on closely supporting team members through hiring, coaching, development, performance evaluation, and ongoing management. The SDHS ensures that each colleague executes the aligned goals and objectives of the Regional Health System Team and understands how their contributions connect to the broader organizational mission. In addition, the SDHS is responsible for ensuring that all team activities are fully compliant with Madrigal’s policies and procedures, tactical field plans are effectively implemented, and that insights and needs from the field are identified, escalated, and addressed to optimize both team performance and engagement. An important aspect of this role will be the regular and compliant interface with both internal stakeholders (field medical leadership, market access, HQ medical strategy, clinical operations) and external customers (payer and health system decision makers and others).

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific/healthcare degree (e.g., MD/DO, PharmD, PhD, DPN, etc.) or life sciences degree and meaningful healthcare setting experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant life sciences medical affairs experience working with payer and IDN KDMs.
  • 3+ years prior leadership/people management or equivalent leadership development required.
  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine, the managed market environment, pharmacoeconomics, disease management, real-world evidence generation and medical research.
  • Business and market knowledge, including quality management, formulary management and pathway development/management.
  • Ability to understand and convey emergent scientific information.
  • Knowledge of clinical medicine, disease management and medical research in at least one therapeutic area (metabolism or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis strongly preferred).
  • Excellent understanding of Healthcare System and relevant research procedures as well as FDA and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of regulation and standards for field medical affairs activities in the US.
  • Demonstrable multitasking, project management and execution skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including communications, presentations and execution on task skills.
  • Good organizational skills, including efficiency, punctuality and collaboration in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with common software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint) as well as virtual interaction software (e.g. Zoom) and CRM platforms (e.g. Veeva).

Responsibilities

  • With Field Medical leadership team, responsible for development and execution of the field medical strategy and tactical plan with payer, IDN, specialty pharmacy, and GI super group key decision makers (KDMs).
  • Collaborate with Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team, HQ medical strategy, market access and other stakeholders to support real world evidence (RWE) generation studies.
  • Partner with regional Key Account Director (KAD) leadership and field medical (MSL, CPL) leadership to ensure strategic development and execution of account plans in priority IDNs.
  • Partner with Regional Account Director (RAD) leadership to support regional payer KDMs.
  • Responsible for Health Systems medical affairs activities at identified US medical, specialty pharmacy and organized provider congresses including partnering with the market access leadership to schedule customer meetings, the HEOR team to support poster presentations and medical operations to gather competitive intelligence and facilitating the development of pre- and post- conference scientific materials.
  • Responsible for mapping company needs and ultimately building the future of the HS field medical team in US, working with the rest of the field medical leadership team.
  • Identify key deliverables, insights, and metrics that highlight the value of the field medical affairs organization.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management and development of all direct reports.
  • Remain current on scientific trends and therapeutics landscapes in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
  • Remain aware, up to date and compliant with all Madrigal policies and procedures regarding the engagement of internal stakeholders as well as external customers.
  • Ensure field medical activities and scientific interactions are compliant with all legal, regulatory and Madrigal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support medical affairs needs including attendance at key congresses, clinical trial activities and stakeholder engagements (travel can vary between 25% to 75%).
