About The Position

The Senior Director of Health Systems Analytics and Modeling/CDO reports to the Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer and is responsible for advancing Connecticut Children's Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) maturity journey to achieve organizational excellence and innovation. This is done in partnership with the Connecticut Children's Research Institute, Division of Excellence in Patient Safety and Clinical Quality and all Analytical Resource Center leadership. This position will lead analytics and AI strategy development and deployment with Connecticut Children's executive leadership and industry best practices. This role is a leadership change agent, who develops, coaches, and facilitates teams and leaders to drive change and business decisions that will help facilitate Connecticut Children's vision. The Senior Director of Health Systems Analytics and Modeling/CDO plays a key role in the development of an analytical platform which will enable a culture of alignment to our vision, respect for people and zero harm throughout the organization including programs throughout our care alliance partners and satellite locations. The Senior Director of Health Systems Analytics and Modeling/CDO will make decisions that reflect the contributory role of information systems, nursing, pharmacy, physicians, other providers, other team members and leadership and is responsible for providing analytics and AI recommendations relative to strategic functions of the organization. This leader plays a key role in the organization's commitment to our mission and vision. The Senior Director of Health Systems Analytics and Modeling/CDO will also serve to evaluate the leadership systems and key performance indicators at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or related field, preferably with additional executive education on leading AI strategy for organizations.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience enabling healthcare Analytics and Modeling required with demonstrated success.
  • Experience in developing and deploying system-level analytics and AI strategy.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and partners to integrate analytics and AI solutions across the organization.
  • Possess a strong AI technology foresight aptitude, demonstrating keen awareness of AI trends and evaluating the strategic value of new AI technologies for the organization. Capacity to translate complex AI concepts into actionable business strategies. Proactive approach to staying informed about cutting-edge AI research and applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration, team building and team engagement.
  • Master of analytical and modeling skills.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to identify stakeholders, plan steps, coordinate and allocate resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner, as well as ability to effectively produce deliverables.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience working with complex systems issues such as patient safety, quality, strategic initiatives or operational projects is preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience with teaching and curriculum development in statistics or advanced modeling.
  • Black Belt Certification in Lean/Six Sigma is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive and actionable analytics, AI and predictive modeling strategy aligned with Connecticut Children's vision and goals.
  • Evolve current analytics operating model and engage/align stakeholders' expectations on analytics deliverables.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data scientists, analysts and AI specialists. Seek opportunities to develop such talent through training and career growth.
  • Seek opportunities to unleash the potential of analytics and AI for Connecticut Children's by identifying opportunities for AI (including Generative AI) and machine learning applications across the organization.
  • Measure ROI of business value of data, analytics and AI initiatives.
  • Lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge, advanced analytics and AI solutions while ensuring such initiatives are integrated effectively in the system and workflow.
  • Serve as a liaison between federal and state-level AI regulations and hospital-level AI usage to ensure appropriate and ethical use of AI, prioritizing patient safety and data privacy.
  • Act as a transformational leader, coaching and facilitating teams to embrace data-driven culture and drive organizational change.
  • Maintain awareness and identify trends in healthcare and emerging technology needed for Connecticut Children's to stay as a leader at providing high quality care.
  • Partner with the Connecticut Children's Research Institute, Division of Excellence in Patient Safety and Clinical Quality, Analytic Resource Center and Information System leadership to integrate analytics and AI across the organization through architecting and optimizing the technology landscape, platforms and ecosystems.
  • Lead the Enterprise Analytics and Data Science teams to support the analytics and AI needs for Connecticut Children's
  • Lead the Analytical Resource Center to design an enterprise strategy on the entire value stream from data extraction, data definitions to studying whether a change made a difference.
  • Train and coach leaders and the Operational Excellence team on data analytics and statistical methodologies to eliminate wasteful data collection and reporting strategies at all levels.
  • Create and implement a population health strategy for data analytics and monitoring.
  • Member of the Division of Excellence in Patient Safety and Clinical Quality as a researcher, collaborator and consultant for advanced modeling and statistics.
  • Provide distinctive technical/functional expertise and leadership for the analytical needs of the organization.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a population health strategy to monitor and predict progress to our value-based contracts.
  • Member of and researcher in the Connecticut Children's Research Institute advisory committee. Assists researchers, leaders and team members on best-in-class analytical methodologies.
  • Create and implement training and coaching on right-sized data collection, visualization and understanding of when a change has occurred
  • Consult with administrative, clinical and physician leaders to identify, diagnose and problem solve organizational Analytics and AI problems and solutions while building positive, value-added relationships with all care team members.
  • Determine the right-sized software and tools to deliver the analytical and AI requirements for Connecticut Children's.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with all members of the teams.
  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of Health Systems Analytics and AI projects with an emphasis on achieving measurable results. Key activities include prioritizing the projects and ensuring that they have the appropriate sponsorship and resources. Address barriers to projects being completed in a timely manner, achieving their goals and sustaining their results.
  • Encourage and support diverse views and approaches, creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors. Integrate diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, and research opportunities.
  • Ensure that departments comply with hospital established policies, safety, and infection control policies and procedures. Develop and maintain established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Ensure compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Demonstrate support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with Connecticut Children's standards.
  • Directly manage professionals in the Enterprise Analytics and Data Science departments.
