About The Position

With the recent acquisition of Metsera, Pfizer is accelerating its journey to become a leader in obesity, a condition that impacts over 1 billion people globally. The Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development team is an integral part of Pfizer’s ambition and plays an important role in defining the product strategy for MET-097, MET-233/097, and the earlier stage obesity portfolio. The team will lead commercial product and portfolio strategy for obesity in partnership with the US and International commercial organizations to advance Pfizer’s strategy and achieve transformative and sustaining growth for the company in the medium and long term. The Senior Director of Strategy and Operations reports to the Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development Lead and is a business-critical role in the creation and development of the Global Obesity team and establishment of the broader global Obesity franchise. They are a strategic advisor to the Lead and their team and are responsible for providing them with comprehensive business support, including shaping and executing Global Obesity’s key operational and organizational priorities. This role plays an essential part in building and maintaining the Global Obesity operating model, shaping and maintaining cross-functional ways of working, enabling key executive (ELT and ELT-1) management engagements, planning cross-functional team sessions, and managing day-to-day operations of the Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development team. This person is accountable for proactively identifying issues and recommending actions, planning and coordinating activities across the Global Obesity cross-functional teams, partnering closely with the US and International Obesity teams and aligning with other parts of the Obesity organization (e.g., Development, PGS), as needed. This role will represent the Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development Lead in select forums/meetings, as required. A successful candidate will be highly agile, comfortable with ambiguity, possess high emotional intelligence and will be eager to tackle and address complex and challenging problems.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree. Life sciences degree preferred.
  • MBA, PhD or other advanced degree highly preferred.
  • 12+ years of professional experience within the pharma industry or 10+ years with advanced degree. Experience in multiple functions (e.g., R&D, marketing, access, medical, CMC, Finance) is highly preferred
  • Project management, operations, and operating plan experience required; organized, proactive, process and detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously with a high degree of operational rigor and on-time delivery.
  • Thrives under pressure; displays sound judgement, prioritizes and delegates with clarity and ease.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, as evidenced by the ability to digest complex information, identify options/scenarios, assess implications, and develop recommendations for direction or action.
  • Comfort with seeking out, tracking, consolidating, analyzing, and presenting relevant data in various formats and mediums.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and diplomacy skills; ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization (including ELT-1 members) and facilitate conflict, without the benefit of direct leadership authority.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key thought partner to Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development Lead and their direct and matrixed team around the team’s mission, strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Prepare reliable, high-quality presentations, talking points, internal communications, and correspondence that contribute to Global Obesity Portfolio Commercial Development team’s productivity and performance and effectively conveys key messages to intended audiences, including frequent, regular touchpoints with ELT members
  • Leads strategy and preparation for Global Obesity on external messaging, in particular partnering with the Pfizer IR and corporate communications team on Pfizer’s external narrative to ensure understanding of Pfizer’s ambition and strategy in obesity
  • Lead internal strategic alignment activities across R&D, PGS/PharmSci, US, and International and leads internal communications to build Pfizer Obesity into a high performing cross-functional team, including planning strategy off-sites, cross-functional forums
  • Partner with PX and the broader Pfizer Obesity organization to build out team onboarding plans, including training and immersion into the obesity TA
  • Develop and continually enhance team meetings and agendas to optimize organizational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide strategic leadership in development and execution of all business-critical activities
  • Partner with Business Innovation and Business Development on an ‘as-needed’ basis, in partnership with other Commercial Development team members
  • Work closely with the Global Obesity team to develop the annual operating plan; own the process, execution, and quality of the plan, coordinating with the Commercial Development Team.
  • Lead and manage the Global Obesity Portfolio Strategy and Operations team.
  • Provide mentoring to junior team members and provide coaching and feedback to team members
