About The Position

The Senior Director Financial Services is responsible for the financial reporting at both the individual company level and on a consolidated basis within a health system. This role also involves financial accounting and reporting for retirement plans and serving as the lead financial and operational contact for the captive insurance company. The Director will report to the Vice President of Support Services.

Requirements

  • Expertise in accounting, audit, grants, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in revenue cycle and fixed assets accounting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and General Ledger systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a support liaison between operating entities, divisions, product lines, other finance departments, management, and external customers to ensure prompt resolution of issues, accuracy of financial information, and timely reporting.
  • Represent Finance on internal and external committees, task forces, and management meetings.
  • Perform monthly financial reporting variance analysis.
  • Provide customer service by researching issues, offering financial expertise, and providing guidance for new accounting pronouncements.
  • Develop and implement policies related to modifications to the general ledger structure and maintain the common chart of accounts.
  • Ensure knowledge and accountability for the maintenance and establishment of cost centers.
  • Program minor changes to the system for ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Reconcile accounts, general ledger interfaces, and bank statements.
  • Research, process, and reconcile inter-company transactions.
  • Maintain effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy, and integrity of all financial records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with IT personnel and outside vendors to monitor system performance, make recommendations, and coordinate testing/scheduling of software upgrades and enhancements.
  • Maintain technical proficiency of operating information systems and related software/hardware.
  • Ensure prompt identification and resolution of problem areas to minimize fees and waiting time associated with vendor support/outside consultants.
  • Prepare annual financial statements for review by external auditors and presentation to the audit committee.
  • Oversee the monthly and year-end analysis of third-party contractual allowances and reserves.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the Crowe RCA system for hospital and physician entities.
  • Provide contractual allowance data for budget and year-end audits.
  • Prepare monthly financial and CFO reports for the Finance Committees and the Board of Trustees.
  • Prepare financial analysis as requested for board and committee meetings.
  • Process monthly expenditures and encumbrances related to grants.
  • Work with the Sponsored Program Administration for monthly grant tracking and reporting.
  • Analyze variances within individual grants and reconcile activity to the general ledger.
  • Coordinate accounting and audits for research grants with the Sponsored Program Administration.
  • Maintain the corporate fixed assets records and establish policies related to the procurement/disposal of all property, plant, and equipment.
  • Calculate monthly/annual depreciation expense and gain/loss on the disposal of assets.
  • Reconcile activity to the general ledger and provide appropriate information for internal risk management insurance estimates and external parties such as city/state tax agencies.
  • Prepare and coordinate the filing of annual Forms 1120, 990T, 990, and PC with external tax advisors.
  • Prepare Form 1099, real estate, and Abandoned Property Filings for city and state.
  • Determine accounting treatment for new joint ventures and strategic partnerships and assess monthly valuations and tax implications.
  • Monitor financial performance of joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and related commentary and analysis.
  • Create ad hoc financial reports to meet the informational needs of management and auditors.
  • Prepare audited financial statements and supporting audit schedules for external auditor review.
  • Summarize financial performance for Board and Finance Committee review.
