This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. In this strategic and impactful role, you will lead the enterprise wide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team working with the Vice President of Safety and Mission Assurance. The Senior Director of EHS believes that all leaders have a habitual aim to promote safety. This role will strive to ensure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed, so they stay fixed. You must have an incredible attention to detail. The successful candidate will replace good intentions with mechanisms and never rely on, “We’ll do better next time.” You will instill a mentality that extraordinary process can accelerate progress. As part of a passionate and hardworking team of experts, you will lead EHS engineers, coaching and conducting improvement projects on various corporate processes including engineering, manufacturing, support services and spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of improving our business execution and company.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in occupational safety and environmental management roles, manufacturing in aerospace industry.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety.
  • In depth understanding and practical experience of EHS Management System design and implementation, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001 and OSHA and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS leadership through mentoring teams of dedicated aerospace professionals who develop launch vehicles, spacecraft, launch pads, and manufacturing facilities with hazardous liquids, cryogenic systems, ordnance/explosives, and mechanical systems.
  • Lead corporate EHS strategy; establish standards, policies, and procedures to run EHS programs at all Blue Origin sites.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining the EHS Management System and related EHS standards, policies, and procedures to meet future ISO 14001 and 45001 certification, regulatory and industry best practice standards.
  • Remain current with all applicable regulations and company policies and advises leadership in EHS-related programmatic change recommendations or requirements.
  • Develop and manage key EH&S performance indicators; provide performance assessments to senior management; recommend and implement performance improvement plans.
  • Perform data analysis within Gensuite (an EHS common system platform) to drive accurate reporting and continual improvement, including incident trending, root cause/corrective actions, short- and long-term action plans.
  • Evaluate operations, equipment and practices for environmental health and safety compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Guides and supports the setting of strategy, driving to goal attainment, and cross-functional ownership of EHS initiatives.
  • 50% travel between sites across the US.
