We are seeking a visionary Senior Director who is passionate about EDGM to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Ally's data governance and management policies, enablement services, and compliance measurement. This pivotal role will collaborate closely with senior business and technology leaders across the organization to ensure data quality, integrity, compliance, and accessibility.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles, with at least 5 years in a more senior leadership capacity
  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards (e.g., DCAM) and familiarity with data governance and management platforms (e.g., data catalogs, data lineage, data quality)
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale data initiatives, cross-functional teams, and a team of data governance professionals
  • Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, including ability to navigate complex organizational environments
  • Strategic mindset paired with pragmatic execution capabilities
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate data-related risks within the organization
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams and colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively to executive leadership in both business and technology roles
  • Ability to manage complexity, prioritize team deliverables, and make effective decisions

Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute strategic direction for Ally's Enterprise Data Governance and Management initiatives in alignment with Ally's overall business strategies
  • Develop, refine, and measure compliance of EDGM policies, standards, and procedures
  • Provide EDGM enablement services (e.g., training, tooling, reporting) to help all Ally businesses and corporate functions understand and successfully adopt EDGM policy, standards, and procedures
  • Champion a culture of data accountability, stewardship, and data-driven decision making and lead change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of data governance practices across the organization
  • Oversee the enterprise identification, prioritization, and follow-through of data defect and data issue management processes
  • Provide executive-level communication, reporting regularly to stakeholders across the enterprise on EDGM performance and strategic alignment
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, proactively manage data risks, and drive remediation of open EDGM issues
  • Drive successful execution of EDGM target objectives supported by the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
  • Lead a strong team of ~15 data governance professionals, fostering career development, performance excellence, and continuous learning
  • Work with diverse teams across the enterprise, including all businesses and corporate functions as they take accountability for managing their data well
