About the position

Korro Bio is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced Sr. Director to lead our Data Science team. This individual will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership, overseeing the development and execution of Korro's bioinformatics strategy. A key focus will be enabling efficient data management, analysis, and visualization to support discovery research efforts. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in computational biology and a strong track record in scientific leadership. Success in this role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary startup environment and a proactive, collaborative mindset. This position reports to the SVP of Platform Development.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a key member of Korro Bio's scientific leadership team, providing scientific expertise, strategic planning, and goal-oriented execution.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of data scientists and computational engineers.
  • Partner with other groups (e.g. chemistry, platform biology, pharmacology) within research and development to facilitate lead identification, optimization and development candidate nomination.
  • Build strong relationships enabling trust, respect and effective collaboration cross disciplinary colleagues to ensure productive and successful company-wide research and development programs.
  • Serve as a role model and foster a scientifically rigorous, open and supportive corporate environment.
  • Effectively communicate scientific planning, progress and results to Korro's executive leadership, R&D teams, and external audiences. Additionally, build and develop appropriate relationships with key opinion leaders and SAB members.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (Bioinformatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Physics, Engineering, or Machine Learning) with relevant industry experience, OR M.S. degree with 10+ years of extensive industry experience.
  • Minimum 7+ years of industry experience with demonstrated leadership and management capabilities, including proven ability to build, develop, and mentor high-performing teams.
  • Experience analyzing gene therapy, gene editing, in vitro/vivo assay, genetics, genomics and cell biology data.
  • Experience analyzing the multiple facets of next generation sequencing data, including amplicon sequencing, tag counting, exon sequencing.
  • Experience using comparative genomics as a tool for gene discovery.
  • Passionate scientific leader with strong emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills, adept at navigating a fast-paced, rapidly evolving biotech environment and driving programs forward under aggressive timelines.
  • Hands-on approach with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Track record of collaboration, stakeholder relationship management, and influencing key decision makers.
