About The Position

As Senior Director of Engineering for Global Data Foundations at Walmart Global Tech, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data and analytics capabilities. Leading a talented and diverse team of data engineers distributed across the globe, you will spearhead the development and maintenance of cutting-edge data products that fuel our business growth and customer-centric initiatives. The Data Engineering team helps Walmart manage its vast volume of data by building pipelines and data lakes to prepare big data for analysis and unlocking actionable insights in real-time. The team also utilizes cross-departmental data and machine learning to build a holistic view of true profitability, aiming to save millions of dollars across item categories and geographies while assisting leadership in making faster, better decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in building data pipeline design, architecture and deployment review.
  • A strong understanding of data platforms, data and reporting engines, data modeling and warehousing, and data transformations and pipelines for supporting real time and batch-oriented events processing.
  • Experience with Big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark and cloud based solutions like Big Query.
  • Knowledge of tools like Airflow, Automic, Visualization tools like Power BI, Looker, tableau and languages like Spark, Scala.
  • Proactive business stakeholder management.
  • Translate business requirements into strategies and initiatives and drive the execution of deliverables.
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 7 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Option 2: 9 years’ experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 6 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • 3 years' supervisory experience.

  • Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • ETL tools and working with large data sets in the cloud.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 7 years' experience in software engineering.

  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Driving the Data engineering charter with AI first mindset, bring best practices, solve key enterprise problems for multiple markets.
  • Develop and leverage a consistent framework with a platform based approach to identify and prioritize uses cases based on business value.
  • Exhibit thought leadership to solve complex data problems (business & operational), pivotal to Walmart's business and drive actionable insights.
  • Demonstrate incremental solution based approach with agile and flexible ability to overcome practical problems.
  • Lead and collaborate with the team to assess customer needs and translate the business problem into an analytical problem.
  • Establish platform best practices and drive the use of state of art techniques.
  • Drive continuous improvement by researching industry best practices and incorporating it to our company.
