About The Position

Sony Corporation of America is seeking an accomplished cybersecurity leader to serve as Senior Director, Cyber Defense. This role works directly with the Vice President of Cyber Defense and is responsible for reducing cyber risk for Sony by strengthening and evolving cyber defense operations capabilities. The Senior Director is accountable for ensuring Sony maintains resilient, adaptive, and trusted cyber defense capabilities across a highly distributed global enterprise. This position will oversee a global set of multidisciplined Cyber Defense Teams (CDTs), which are crucial for securing Sony’s information assets, services, and products, building customer trust, and protecting customer privacy. CDT capabilities include cyber security monitoring, incident response, detection engineering, security engineering, vulnerability management, machine log data on-boarding, and SOAR playbook development. This strategic and operational role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in securing complex and highly targeted environments, bringing deep expertise in cyber or IT operations, team leadership, and enterprise-scale resiliency efforts, along with a collaborative mindset and ability to influence business units.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of technical leadership experience, including substantial leadership in IT or cyber operations and enterprise-scale environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of information technology, cyber security concepts, and cyber security tools.
  • Crisis Management and/or Incident Management experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate and influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Understanding and awareness of privacy laws and regulations, and how they affect cyber defense activities.
  • Demonstrated success leading global teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated success leading global SOCs and managing incident responses for highly targeted organizations.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, endpoint protection, identity management, and threat intelligence integration.
  • Hands-on experience with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, ISO 27001).
  • Proven ability to lead through change and drive innovation in large, complex organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary decision-maker for cyber defense operations during significant security incidents, in coordination with enterprise leadership.
  • Oversee the execution, quality, and effectiveness of 24x7 global security operations to detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats against Sony Group Companies.
  • Collaborate with Sony Group Companies (SGCs) to develop tailored defensive solutions to meet unique needs of the businesses while reducing cyber risk.
  • Drive strategic transformation initiatives that measurably improve detection, response speed, and resilience.
  • Champion the use of emerging tools and techniques to improve visibility, detection, and response (e.g., AI, SOAR, EDR, etc).
  • Direct and develop a globally distributed organization, fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous learning that is adaptable to rapidly changing needs.
  • Collaborate with key partners in IT, business operations, risk, and compliance to ensure alignment with security objectives.
  • Represent cyber defense leadership in executive forums and cross-functional meetings inside Sony, and representing Sony externally as a cyber leader for government and industry partnerships related to cybersecurity.
