About The Position

We are looking for a talented attorney and experienced people manager to join our Commercial & Global Business Operations (GBO) Legal Team to lead the team responsible for supporting our rapidly expanding Americas enterprise business. In this role you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior Sales leaders operating regionally and globally, as well as work closely with leaders across the Legal department and other segments of the business to shape and drive our efforts to accelerate our customers' journey to the cloud. At the same time, you will be a thought leader who sets the course and helps implement innovation in all aspects of how we provide legal support for our commercial endeavors, to help Atlassian scale and continue its growth. Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, with at least eight years practicing as an in-house lawyer (preferably for a multinational, publicly-listed company).
  • 3+ years of management experience with legal teams.
  • In depth knowledge of commercial and contract law based on working in a law firm and/or in-house on complex technology transactions for a software and/or cloud services provider; expertise in other legal fields like intellectual property, privacy, and data protection law an additional benefit.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment, with remote, global, and cross-functional teams.
  • JD from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of at least one state Bar
  • You are a broad-based business attorney with substantial commercial and contract law experience, strong business acumen, and a pragmatic approach focused on delivering business-oriented results.
  • You are highly curious and a quick learner, who thrives in ambiguous, complex, challenging and/or changing environments.
  • You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and are able to work effectively with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as business partner for the Americas Region leaders across all sales segments, and contribute as a member of the regional and global extended Sales leadership teams.
  • Lead the Americas-based Enterprise Sales & International Operations Legal team in the provision of practical and business-oriented legal advice for all customer-facing commercial related matters in the region, including management of U.S. public sector operations and programs. You will partner closely with Sales leaders at all levels as well as an array of cross-functional business leaders including those in Finance, Trust & Security, Commerce, Channel & GTM Ecosystems, Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
  • Support compliance in our day-to-day activities in the Americas, including providing training and counseling to sales professionals and driving compliance initiatives.
  • Manage and develop a growing team of 14+ seasoned legal professionals consisting of commercial counsel and contract managers.
  • Budget management, coordination of external counsel, goal setting, metric reporting, and organizational planning for delivering efficient, scalable legal support for Atlassian’s rapidly expanding and evolving business.
  • Set a course and lead key projects on behalf of the Legal team that support our cloud and AI transformation efforts, from initial brainstorming and engagement of stakeholders through building project roadmaps, change management, execution, measuring ROI, and communicating results.
  • Serve on the leadership team for the Commercial & GBO Legal Team, participating in all facets of team planning, including building out long-term growth plans, setting team OKRs, and managing strategic priorities.
