The Senior Director of Certificates at WGU Academy, an affiliate of Western Governors University, plays a pivotal role in expanding access to affordable, short-term credentials that equip students with job-ready skills across various disciplines, including Business, Technology, Health, and Education. This position is responsible for overseeing all key results related to WGU Certificates, such as student completion rates, return on investment, and ensuring equity in access and attainment. The Senior Director will manage the Certificates profit and loss (P&L), execute the go-to-market strategy, recommend new offerings, and lead a dedicated outreach team comprising business development professionals, account managers, and career specialists. This team will engage with large-scale employers who will serve as both sources of students and recruiters for graduates. In this role, the Senior Director will engage regularly with WGU's Schools of Health, Education, Technology, and Business, as well as with the university's President, CFO, COO, and CAO. The position requires collaboration with WGU Academy leadership and external employers to design, execute, and scale innovative Certificate programs that meet the needs of the job market. The Senior Director will also drive innovation in student payments, funding, and scholarships through employer-based and donor-supported models. The Senior Director will work closely with WGU's Marketing, Enrollment, and Regional Partnerships teams to establish employer relationships that significantly impact employees' lives and open employment opportunities for Certificate graduates. This includes delivering both direct-to-consumer and B2B strategies aimed at creating substantial student impact. The role also involves reporting on enrollment, completion, and return on investment metrics, leading teams to ensure student success post-completion, particularly in securing employment. Additionally, the Senior Director will partner with research teams and school leaders to develop and refine metrics that assess the impact of Certificate programs, ensuring these metrics drive continuous improvement aligned with WGU's objectives. Leadership by influence is crucial, as the Senior Director will guide and coach others within WGU Academy, emphasizing the development of essential soft skills such as communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution. The role also includes representing WGU in external forums, building networks with educational and professional organizations, and refining a five-year vision for Certificates to ensure financial sustainability and strategic alignment with the university's goals.
