About the position

We're looking for a full-time, staff Sr. Director, Capture Manager - Department of Defense to join our Day & Zimmermann team. The Senior Director of Business Development Capture is responsible for driving growth in Department of Defense (DOD) Base Operations Support (BOS) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) opportunities. This role focuses on identifying, qualifying, and capturing new business that aligns with DZGS's strategic goals and capabilities. The Sr. Director leads the development and execution of capture strategies, including client engagement, competitive analysis, and solution development, ensuring proposals are tailored to DOD requirements. By collaborating closely with operations teams, this role ensures seamless integration of client needs and operational solutions, positioning DZGS as a trusted partner in delivering efficient, cost-effective BOS and O&M services. The Sr. Director's expertise in the DOD environment, combined with disciplined pursuit processes, is critical to securing contracts and driving sustainable growth in these key service areas.

Responsibilities

  • Leads developing new business and strategic partnerships against Federal Civilian Agencies and accounts, increasing D&Z's customer base by identifying, qualifying and executing a new business opportunity pipeline.
  • Cultivates and nurtures customer/industry partner relationships and shapes specific market segments and targets.
  • Maintains knowledge of client organizations, key personnel, competitive environment and strategic alignment requirements.
  • Leads qualified opportunities through the entire capture and proposal planning phases with significant engagement throughout proposal development and post-submittal.
  • Analyzes opportunity requirements (DRFP/RFP/PWS), develops and writes responses to RFIs, builds capture and proposal strategies, negotiates teaming agreements and prepares and presents gate reviews.
  • Demonstrates an ability to effectively develop and execute well-designed capture plans following established internal gates and using standard tools and processes.
  • Leads multiple captures, including hands-on development of critical bid artifacts required for proposal development.
  • Responsible for effectively leading cross-functional capture teams of consultants, support staff, SMEs and industry partners.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with multiple internal organizations in the development of an account and opportunity strategy.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships and relationships with industry peers and new and existing customers.

Requirements

  • Mastery of business development pre-award lifecycle process, understanding of the US Government contracting process/FAR.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, interpersonal, project management and leadership skills.
  • Highly motivated, results driven with an excellent work ethic; pushes self and others to deliver results with accountability to commitments.
  • Strategic thinking and decision making to maximize probability of win; creative thinking on competitive positioning, win strategy, themes and discriminators.
  • Must display organizational agility; able to develop and leverage effective relationships and networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors Degree; additional years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years in progressively more responsible roles in business development, capture/proposal development.
  • Demonstrated and sustained ability and reputation of winning complex $50-100M+ single-award contract awards.
  • Understanding of all contract types and contract structures.
  • Active duty military experience a plus.
  • Formal capture training, bring Shipleys or other corporate training program is preferred.
  • Secret or higher clearance preferred.
