About The Position

Provide policy analysis of legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues related to assigned topics, including artificial intelligence, regulatory modernization, and financial issues as assigned. Coordinate development of APCIA positions with members on artificial intelligence related to insurer use, industry standards, potential liability, and policy contract coverage that would establish and/or preserve state-related laws and regulations. Coordinate the development of APCIA positions on proposals involving insurer financial issues and prepare such materials for APCIA communication to members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree: A law degree (JD) is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience preferably in the property/casualty practice area.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and regulatory issues at the state and federal levels.
  • Knowledge of legal research and resources.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in other industries accepted.
  • A law degree (JD) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Function as main technical resource for members, other APCIA divisions (public affairs, state, and federal government relations) on artificial intelligence issues.
  • Analyze legislation, regulatory and administrative developments, and other pending issues. Prepare materials and coordinate member calls and meetings on artificial intelligence issues.
  • Assist with policy development related to innovation and technology, including artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.
  • Develop and provide research, talking points, memos, and comment letters for the State and Federal Government Relations team and members on pending legislation and administrative actions.
  • Provide guidance to members of the various APCIA financial committees on related industry legislation and proposed or adopted regulations.
  • Assist members of APCIA’s financial regulation department on a wide range of projects, including work on Federal Insurance Office (FIO) data calls, meetings, and the NAIC.
  • Participate and contribute to the various financial issue committees’ meetings and calls.
  • Work with APCIA’s financial policy team on regulatory and other financial matters, including development of financial standards at the state, federal, and international levels and research, talking points, and comment letters for pending legislative and administrative developments related to financial policy.
  • Perform consultative services and technical assistance work for the multiple divisions within APCIA and help internal coworkers and member companies.
  • Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Function as liaison with staff of other organizations.
  • Complete special projects and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
