We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Digital Writer/Editor - Media Relations. In this role, the successful candidate is an experienced Copyeditor/Proofreader who will join the Media Relations team within the department of Communications, Marketing, Government and Community Affairs. This role, which will be based in Manhattan and expected to be in the office 3X a week, will support teams across the department by providing copyediting/proofreading for a variety of written communications including but not limited to news releases, web/intranet stories, leadership/internal messages, social media posts, other web content, and various reports prepared by the department. The Copyeditor/Proofreader will ensure accuracy, correct grammar and language as well as a consistent style across all communications issued by the department. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Media Relations, this position will play an important role ensuring that internal and external communications issued by NYU Langone and its leadership are clear, accurate, grammatically correct, factually accurate and possess a consistent look and feel that is aligned with the institutions overall brand. This position will have available backup and support provided when and where needed. The ideal candidate should have an excellent understanding of AP style and possess superior editing skills to ensure clarity and impact of language to communicate key points. This person in this role should have a proven ability to manage multiple tasks at once, effectively prioritizing, making sound recommendations, and elevating as appropriate. This position will also work with the web team to ensure that content is optimized for search engines to improve online visibility. Additionally, this person will need to work with writers at different levels to effectively and constructively make changes to their copy in a collegial and cooperative environment. This includes a willingness and ability to defer to the primary writers needs and intent for a piece of writing, while also knowing when to insist on changes, ultimately respecting the difference between copyediting and substantial content editing.
