About The Position

You can make a difference in your community and in the lives of students by working as a senior digital communication specialist for Ulster BOCES and neighboring school districts located in the beautiful Ulster County region! The award-winning Ulster BOCES School Communication Service provides customized communications, public relations, and marketing support to schools in order to inform and engage audiences through clear, transparent, and proactive communications (including traditional and digital storytelling). The team consists of specialists with skill sets in strategic communication, media relations, journalism, content creation, marketing, crisis communication, photography, video, graphic design (for digital and print), social media, websites, and other digital strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Graphic Technology, Graphic Communications, Computer Graphics, Public Relations, or a closely related field and one (1) year of full-time paid experience in public and community relations including web design and/or development.
  • Associate's Degree in the same fields and three (3) years of full-time paid experience in public and community relations including web design and/or development.
  • High school diploma or equivalency and five (5) years of full-time paid experience in public and community relations including web design and/or development.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Clearance for appointment from the State Education Department based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and build strong communication links between the district, schools, parents, staff, and community.
  • Provide a continuum of communications services that includes website design and management, social media management, and other digital and traditional public relations services.
  • Design, implement, and maintain school districts' websites and social media presence.
  • Develop and write content for electronic and print use.
  • Help implement communications projects and strategies.
  • Schedule work of team members, mentor and train, and manage project timelines.
  • Act as client liaison to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor visitor traffic and recommend necessary programming changes.
  • Analyze and resolve design layout, content, and implementation problems.
  • Create, curate, monitor, and manage all social media published content.
  • Plan, develop, write, proofread, edit, reproduce, and distribute school publications and electronic communications content.
