About The Position

Flock Safety is seeking a Senior Device Field Application Engineer who will serve as the technical expert for escalated field issues, providing support and troubleshooting for our devices directly in the field. This role is crucial for ensuring customers derive maximum value from our products. Responsibilities include remote and on-site support, troubleshooting complex issues, and providing feedback to internal hardware and software teams. The position requires a unique blend of deep technical knowledge, hands-on problem-solving, and excellent communication skills, acting as the face of Flock in the field.

Requirements

• A Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in system or customer engineering support, or similar roles.
• Expertise in embedded systems, including hardware, firmware, and system integration.
• Proven ability to debug under pressure and isolate issues across layers.
• Familiarity with the embedded landscape, including Android AOSP, kernel development, and communication standards.
• Specific familiarity with Qualcomm chipsets and Qualcomm-based devices preferred.
• Experience with customer-facing activities and ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly.
• Fluency in telemetry and ability to interpret logs and system health indicators.
• Structured troubleshooting methodology for quick problem resolution.
• Commitment to closing feedback loops and communicating issues back to stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel (~25%) for field issue resolution.

• Experience with embedded systems in a field application context.
• Knowledge of real-time operating systems and their application in field devices.

Responsibilities

• Provide remote and on-site support for troubleshooting complex field issues.
• Act as the technical expert for escalated field issues.

• Collaborate with internal hardware and software teams to provide feedback on issues.
• Monitor fleet health using telemetry and data analysis to identify potential failure patterns.
