The Senior DevOps Engineer will enhance deployment processes, automate services, refine automated testing pipelines, and support cloud infrastructure services within the Biological Sciences Division's Data for the Common Good team at the University of Chicago. This role is crucial for maintaining and improving the infrastructure that supports the Pediatric Cancer Data Commons and other disease commons, ensuring operational security and efficiency.

  • Deployment of applications in both production and non-production environments.
  • Maintain and update current infrastructure, including updating Dockerfiles and service versions.
  • Implement automated testing and deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
  • Manage IAM for team resources, including access and permissions to AWS accounts.
  • Improve deployment scripts and general automation processes.
  • Design new systems, features, and tools.
  • Solve complex problems and identify opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization.
  • Review and test code to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Utilize knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
  • Minimum college or university degree in a related field.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar field.
  • 5 or more years of professional work experience as a DevOps Engineer.
  • Professional experience utilizing a cloud services provider.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools within a professional setting.
  • Strong background in network technologies.
  • Familiarity with continuous testing tools in a professional capacity.
