  • Conduct furniture needs analyses to define requirements for implementing designs.
  • Develop innovative and effective solutions that add value and enhance product application techniques to design solutions.
  • Prepare and independently runs design meetings with industry partners and end users.
  • Generate and manage custom products/specials, COM testing, shop, and submittal drawings.
  • Create final furniture specifications (specs) and pricing.
  • Prepare information for labor quotes, providing insights for project planning.
  • Create comprehensive installation drawing packages.
  • Coordinate and advise with AV, plumbing, data, and electrical vendors to ensure seamless integration with furniture layouts.
  • Leads site visits and field verifications to ensure accurate on-site assessments.
  • Ensures accuracy by performing thorough spec checks and cross-verifying work with team members to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Maintains organized and up-to-date email communications, file structures, and drawings, ensuring easy access and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Conveys ideas effectively through well-crafted detailed drawings, and comprehensive spec books, presenting them in a thoughtful manner.
  • Mentors and supports other designers, providing guidance and fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Initiative in self-guided learning to continuously enhance product and industry knowledge and share with others.
  • Builds and maintains client design standards programs, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Partner with the sales team as a primary point of contact for customers, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction throughout the process.
  • Demonstrate skill in selling design solutions, effectively integrating sales and design to meet client needs.
  • Embrace cross-training on vertical markets, expanding expertise and versatility.
  • Efficiently manage workload, making decisions independently and advocating for personal priorities.
  • 6+ years of industry experience, preferably at a commercial furniture dealer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or equivalent
  • Requires local travel to job sites for on-site assessments and in-person customer meetings
  • Extensive knowledge of interior commercial construction, architecture, design, real estate, and contract furnishings, acquired through years of experience.
  • Proficient product knowledge and application, including experience with Herman Miller and Knoll products.
  • Proven experience presenting to clients, demonstrating a collaborative approach to securing business.
  • Extensive experience in the furniture dealership environment, with a strong understanding of industry practices and standards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Successfully work both independently and as a leader within a collaborative team, guiding and mentoring others to success.
  • Advanced skill in translating complex design concepts into precise drawings and specifications, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Expertise in assessing architectural field conditions and understanding building system interfaces with furniture.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, CET, CAP, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and commercial furniture industry software; willingness to learn new systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining relevant industry certifications, and continuously advancing professional knowledge and credibility.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with vendors and industry partners, leveraging these connections for mutual success.
  • Confident and self-reliant in navigating the entire design process, with a proven ability to progress projects with minimal oversight, serving as a mentor and leader to less experienced team members.
