About The Position

The Senior Designer I role is an advanced-level position for individuals with a comprehensive understanding of piping design and industry standards. In this role, you will lead the development of piping layouts, plans, sections, and elevations for mid-sized projects or multiple smaller projects, contributing to the successful delivery of engineering work. You will operate with a high degree of independence, applying advanced knowledge of industry standards (ASME, ANSI, API), materials, and design practices to produce accurate and efficient design solutions. This role requires strong proficiency in AutoCAD® and CADWorx Plant®, along with the ability to navigate complex design challenges within a fast-paced project environment. Working directly with engineers and receiving broad, high-level direction from supervisors, you will take ownership of design deliverables while ensuring alignment with project requirements, standards, and schedules. In addition to project execution, you will mentor and support the development of junior designers, contributing to overall team capability and consistency in design practices.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of progressive relevant design experience or equivalent.
  • CADWorx Plant® proficiency required (or AutoCAD Plant 3D® at equivalent level); independently builds and manages complex 3D piping models with limited direction.
  • Intermediate knowledge of available Navisworks® tools; able to operate Freedom, Manage, and Simulate and perform a presentation with a client.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD®; understands, can edit and use LISP routines, tools, plotting settings, and CUI; understands AutoCAD setup; uses tools to be more efficient; can troubleshoot computer issues and provide technical assistance to others.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ relative experience in oil and gas design or equivalent industrial environment.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD®, CADWorx P&ID®, CADWorx Plant®, Bluebeam Revu®, Navisworks®, and other company software.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures in an active facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of gathering field dimensions, P&ID as-building, and walking down P&IDs to determine tie-in locations on an active facility.
  • Laser scanning and point cloud drafting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced P&ID and piping annotation skills; able to pick up redlines following Kahuna standards, spot errors, back-check other’s work, and develop P&IDs from walkdowns with little to no instruction from supervisor, engineer, or lead.
  • Ability to do complex 3D modeling using CADWorx Plant® (or AutoCAD Plant 3D®) with limited direction from experienced designers.
  • Compressor station level piping ability: ability to route and detail piping with a focus on clean pipe routing and design, introduction to pipe rack loading.
  • Elementary site plan layout skills for larger facilities.
  • Independently lead piping of mid-sized projects or multiple small projects while coordinating with designers and engineers.
  • Assist in development of group standards and practices; proactively lead evolution of team designs and pre-developed tools/templates.
  • Independently assist with and review drawings of other less experienced designers and markup as necessary to represent a functional design, coordinating with supervisor, other experienced designers, and engineers. Able to mentor and train less experienced drafters/designers.
  • Leads coordination with other design teams to ensure continuous flow of information concerning other engineering disciplines affecting the design execution of a project.
  • Demonstrate full understanding of the workflow from beginning to end of a project. Provides technical and administrative support to the discipline design group, reviews their progress, and evaluates their work.
  • Consistently communicate technical and administrative project/task details including correspondence via emails and general documentation. Proactive in communicating project status and workload.
  • Consistently meeting deadlines, able to juggle multiple large projects with conflicting deadlines, identifying potential delays and proactively mitigating such delays. Commitment to putting in the time required to complete assigned tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong ability to functionally communicate technical and administrative project/task details, including correspondence via emails and general documentation.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and be learning to coach and mentor less experienced drafters/designers. Stay engaged and learn leadership skills.
  • Applies ASME B31.3, B31.1, and applicable B16 series codes throughout the design and modeling process.
  • Must be precise and organized in handling of drawings; proven track record of being detail oriented and able to prioritize and multitask as an individual and for the team.
