About The Position

The Production, Mission, Operations & Enhancements group is seeking a multi-talented engineer to support and lead technical program industrialization for a variety of specimens ranging from electronic piece parts to full system solutions across Draper’s product portfolio offering. The candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing design transfers of various ground-breaking solutions from the Development, Validation, to Manufacturing and through to the Post Launch phases. This role offers participation in cutting edge technologies and realizing these designs through productization. The candidate will be expected to work effectively both independently and with cross-functional, multi-site teams. This is primarily an on-site role, with some flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
  • Requires 5-7 years in Systems Engineering or relevant role.
  • Experience with the planning, implementing and closing product design transfers into production environments.
  • Experience with navigating Technical and Manufacturing Readiness Level (TRL and MRL) processes, Risk Management and Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA), or related processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with test plans and results through technical report writing and presentations
  • Ability to work with program managers, customers, and government representatives to define needs/requirements, write proposals, and lead technical teams.
  • Ability to participate in some travel to off-site locations will be required, less than 25%, typically less than one week in duration
  • Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of DFx (Design for Assembly, Test, Manufacturing, Reliability, Quality, Cost, Sustainability, Supply Chain, Maintenance)
  • Working knowledge with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis - DFMEA, FMEA, PFMEA.
  • Experienced with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MEP)
  • Experience of full Development Life Cycle for components, sub-systems or systems, i.e. Phase Gate, Agile, Iterative, V-Shaped, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Able to take ownership of assignments and guide others as needed; successfully lead tasks while tracking priorities, scope, cost and schedule.
  • Derive plans, approaches, procedures for solving complex I&T problems across a program lifecycle, capturing all assumptions and adapting appropriately to changes in requirements with limited direction.
  • Independently contributes high quality content for technical reports and presentations which shows an understanding of their task and an awareness of the intended audience. Demonstrates both confidence and success when presenting technical information during meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
  • Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
