The NYC Department of Design & Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Design Reviewer (Electrical). The selected candidate will perform a comprehensive review of design and/or constructability documents from consultant engineering services and In-house design for DDC's capital construction program. The Design Reviewer will be responsible for: project scoping, design and/or constructability review of consultant drawings and specifications (utilizing Blue-Beam), site inspections and reports, ad hoc technical investigations; condition surveys; in-house design (utilizing AutoCAD and BIM), lighting calculations and providing technical expertise and support services for client-agency projects. The candidate will interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and technical staff.

  • Perform comprehensive review of design and/or constructability documents from consultant engineering services and in-house design.
  • Conduct project scoping and design/constructability review of consultant drawings and specifications using Blue-Beam.
  • Carry out site inspections and prepare reports.
  • Conduct ad hoc technical investigations and condition surveys.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and BIM for in-house design.
  • Perform lighting calculations.
  • Provide technical expertise and support services for client-agency projects.
  • Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and technical staff.
  • Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work.
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License.
  • Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • A master's degree in electrical engineering may be substituted for one year of required experience.
  • Thorough understanding of building electrical and lighting systems, equipment, and assemblies.
  • Expertise in forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues.
  • Up-to-date understanding of equipment cost.
  • At least 5 years of prior relevant field inspection experience.
  • Physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, and basements.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • A valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Eligibility for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
