The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for new product development (NPD/NPI) and/or ongoing engineering support of Aerospace electrical connectors and hold-down release mechanism devices. The role requires application of sound engineering principles, practical problem solving, and use of engineering tools including product life-cycle management (PLM) software and modeling and drafting software (CAD). The senior design engineer will be responsible for engineering program milestone achievement on led projects and support milestone achievement on supported projects. Projects may include Internal Research and Development (iR&D), new product introduction (NPD/NPI), sustaining engineering, cost-out projects, manufacturing sourcing changes, and new business campaigns. A successful candidate will be able: Lead product development tasks within the product engineering team, and/or lead sustaining engineering tasks working with cross-functional colleagues. Proactively coordinate with partners such as internal and external test labs, production support staff, and members of integrated product teams (IPT's) to achieve organizational goals. Guide less experienced members of the engineering team on project tasks. Lead failure analysis investigations and troubleshoot design and production issues. Generate and review documents including models, drawings, FEA reports, test plans and reports, project schedules, design guides, and operating manuals. Manage program and product requirements and risks through effective requirements and risk management tools. Collaborate with customer and vendor technical teams effectively and efficiently. Leads tasks in the development of new products from concept level, through validation and qualification following applicable regulatory and industry standards and customer requirements. Coordinates responses to sustaining engineering issues, developing timely, cost-effective solutions. Represents Engineering in the Material Review Board (MRB). Generates and reviews engineering inputs to customer proposals, including technical concepts, preliminary bill of materials (BOM's), test and analysis scope and related expenses, and preliminary engineering labor estimates. Generates and reviews mechanical design and dimensional analyses. Reviews structural, thermal, dynamic, and performance analysis for design validation as required. Interfaces effectively with applicable internal resources analysis teams. Authors and/or reviews test plans, procedures, and reports and setups for development, acceptance, and qualification testing. Drives failure analysis investigations for Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) projects. Communicates effectively with internal and external technical and program leadership teams, and to middle management audiences (external and internal). Supports marketing and sales teams with technical support and customer visits.
