About The Position

Under direction of the Design Team Leader, perform diversified duties to include product design assignments from entirely new products to product enhancements, improvements, and cost reductions.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in design and development of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of relevant manufacturing technologies and their capabilities such as forging, casting, machining, stamping, heat treatment, protective finishes, and molding.
  • Extensive background in Solid Works.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
  • Ability to perform stress and kinematic analysis by classical means and use of FEA and motion analysis software.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Firearms Design is preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or willingness to learn and participate in Lean Manufacturing processes or activities

Responsibilities

  • Generate design concepts, make detailed designs, and perform design validation activities.
  • Analyze designs for function, tolerances, stress, safety, and performance.
  • Perform calculations and empirical testing as needed to ensure success of the product in the field.
  • Participate in voice of the customer activities. Prioritize customer needs in product designs.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Coordinate DFM and DFA activities with vendors, manufacturing engineering, and operations to achieve optimum value for the customer.
  • Understand in-house and vendor processes and design to process when appropriate.
  • Communicate with stakeholders on design details, timelines, and expectations.
  • Delegate assignments to junior engineers and designers appropriately. Provide guidance and instruction to same.
  • Foster a culture of candor, fact-based decision making, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing improvement activities, identify waste, and take initiative to eliminate it.
