Senior Design Engineer Ontic is a leading global aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) trusted by the world’s aviation leaders. Ontic’s Creedmoor, NC, site is home to a number of specialist companies within the Ontic Group, including Metro Merlin, Twin Commander, and Firstmark. With over 1,500 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and are continuing to grow at pace. Our team is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join them. As part of the Type Design/ Certification Engineering Team, you will report to the Aircraft Airworthiness Technical Director and will have an onsite work structure in Creedmoor, North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ hands-on aircraft design engineering experience, inclusive of aircraft Structural design and 2-3 years Liaison engineering/MRB experience.
  • Experience in creating and interpreting aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Experience with non-conformance evaluation and resolution, including producing detailed repair or corrective action work instructions.
  • General understanding of FAA airworthiness regulations and ability to maintain adherence to them in all design and repair projects.
  • Familiarity with Aircraft OEM documents - SRM, AMM, WDM, IPC, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, CMMs
  • Working knowledge of either of CAD/CATIA/SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management practices.
  • Familiarity with change control boards and configuration management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Structural/ Liaison Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Metro/Merlin or Twin Commander Aircraft Type Certificates.
  • Serve as the primary contact for any Structural repairs in support of either Metro/Merlin or Twin Commander Aircraft models.
  • Primary contact to liaise closely with the customers while defining scope of the repairs needed, including any time sensitive issues (AOG).
  • In conjunction with other personnel, as appropriate, generate structural repair and modification documents, coordinate company and FAA approval, and transmit data to the customers.
  • Disposition MRB documents; coordinates, tracks Requests For Change (RFCs), Limited Approved Repairs (LARs), and Bill Of Material (BOM) requests.
  • Create/modify aircraft engineering drawings as part of Type Design data.
  • Support changes for production/fabrication/installation of parts on the Metro/Merlin or Twin Commander aircraft product line.
  • Collaborate internally with engineering, quality, supply chain, sales, and pricing teams to support development of modifications/kits.
  • Support the Technical Support Representatives with customer technical research/information requests.
  • Investigate and resolve all tooling, quality assurance, manufacturing, or engineering issues.
  • Provide input and updates to engineering manuals (IPC, MM, SRM), as required.
  • Assist manufacturing and production by providing technical solutions to structural problems that may arise during fabrication and assembly operations.
