About The Position

Harper Engineering Co. is seeking a seasoned senior design engineer (or serial inventor) who is creative, innovative, and capable of taking a napkin sketch to a production reality. The senior design engineer is responsible for the development of engineering design data within budget in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), customer and company standards of quality and additionally is responsible to guide design packages with other allocated engineering staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of experience and coursework.
  • Training and experience utilizing Solidworks (or comparable Computer Aided Design program) with demonstratable proficiency.
  • Must possess knowledge of engineering principles used in stress analysis, finite element modeling (FEM), 3D-computer modeling, and other analytical substantiation techniques.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of personal computer systems with Microsoft Office.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Ten (10) years’ industry experience in an engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft.
  • Deep knowledge of FAA regulations, certification processes and related requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard aircraft components, materials, fabrication practices, aviation hardware, and proper application in design.

Responsibilities

  • Creative, clean sheet design concepts from blank canvas to prototype solutions.
  • Provide technical support to complete various projects.
  • Research, prepare, and review engineering data (drawings, plans/reports, work instructions, various manuals, etc.) in support of design assignments.
  • Develop and produce design data required for the proper manufacture, assembly, and installation of aircraft assemblies and components.
  • Perform spring, fastener selections, tolerance studies, weight and cost studies or other assigned assessments.
  • Develop preliminary engineering analysis necessary to substantiate components design and tolerance analysis.
  • Interface with other departments to ensure customer & company requirements are met.
  • Provide technical support to Operations team during the manufacturing and assembly phases of developed design.
  • Support other Engineering groups as workload requirements dictate.
  • Provide input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures, controls, flows, and systems.
  • Work on complex design tasks with assistance.
