Requirements

  • Understands engineering fundamentals.
  • The ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient use of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and PLM software (preferably Windchill), as well as Microsoft Office and related tools.
  • Proficient in LEAN methodology and practices such as standard work, cause & effect, and other tools of DMAIC.
  • Works well in cross-functional team environments.
  • Possess understanding of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, extruding of metals and plastics.
  • Leadership, to influence and enlist the cooperation of other team members to work towards the goal of completing and implementing new product development on time, and in budget.
  • Knowledge of UL / CSA and testing processes is a plus.
  • Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leads various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation.
  • Partners with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors to keep the manufacturing lines running and ensure quality product is produced.
  • Actively participates in, or lead on occasion, team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product.
  • Initiates and develops concepts for new products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation.
  • Continuously looks to improve processes related to productivity, quality, purchasing and manufacturing.
  • Support Better, Smarter, Faster & Lean Transformation efforts as a Kaizen team participant.
  • Submits test requests and actively engages with the testing group as necessary on any required follow-up.
