The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledge experts. The Department is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven leader to serve as Senior Deputy Commissioner (SDC) of Administration. Reporting directly to the Commissioner, the SDC will oversee critical operational and administrative divisions including Facilities & Fleet Administration, Finance, Human Resources Operations, and Information Technology. This executive level position will play a pivotal role in ensuring fiscal integrity, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, infrastructure management, workforce health strategy, and technology innovation. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who can align operational functions with the agency’s mission, drive cross-functional collaboration, and strengthen organizational performance. The Senior Deputy Commissioner will utilize all findings to provide direction and policy in initiating prudent measures to effect fiscal restraints; develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with the Department priorities; provide high-level oversight and accountability for multiple operational divisions; and advise the Commissioner on fiscal, operational, infrastructure, health and technology matters.
