About The Position

The Senior Department Administrator Supervisor at Rutgers University plays a crucial role in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences within the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). This position is responsible for the overall administrative management and supervision of daily operations, which includes performing a series of complex tasks that support academic, research, operational, and administrative functions. The administrator will handle various aspects of personnel management, including faculty, staff, and student administration, payroll, budget management, grant administration, and accounting programs for both Graduate and Undergraduate programs within the department. In this role, the Senior Department Administrator Supervisor ensures the timely processing of all requests and activities, providing prompt and professional service to clients. They will review and develop best practices and procedures to enhance the efficiency of the business unit, utilizing shared electronic files and coordinating tasks to eliminate duplication of effort. The supervisor will work closely with the Department Chair and lab managers to ensure compliance with relevant safety codes and regulations, particularly as new facilities are introduced. Leadership is a key component of this position, as the administrator will implement university initiatives within the department and serve as a resource for information. They will establish performance standards, conduct evaluations, and have the authority to hire and fire staff. Financial analysis is also a significant part of the role, as the supervisor will monitor unit performance and incorporate findings into the strategic planning process. The position requires a solid understanding of administrative, managerial, and financial operations, allowing the administrator to work independently with minimal oversight. The Senior Department Administrator Supervisor will also assist the Chair and academic directors in overseeing academic support, organizing and delegating academic requests to various staff positions, and reviewing faculty promotions and salary requirements. This position is essential for maintaining the operational integrity of the department and supporting the broader mission of Rutgers University.
