About The Position

The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing database systems, particularly SQL Server, within the Plex Cloud Operations team. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of applications while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. The administrator will work collaboratively to resolve issues efficiently and minimize customer impact, supporting the operationalization of advanced software and open-source technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required

  • Experience managing a production system that is highly available and reliable 24/7/365
  • Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server in public cloud
  • Experience writing complex T-SQL and SQL Server stored procedures
  • Experience building automated solutions that promote resiliency and self-healing of applications
  • Operational experience with different technologies and managing large volumes of data
  • Experience troubleshooting performance and tuning queries and stored procedures
  • Strong SQL skills for writing and reviewing scripts
  • Experience setting up backup schedules and securing data
  • Experience building automation scripts for database server builds using Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with Operations technologies: Server Operating Systems (Windows Server, Linux); Virtualization Environments
  • Additional experience with PowerShell, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, Kafka, Druid, Terraform, Ansible, Open-source technologies and cloud services: Azure, AWS, and/or GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Terraform; Chef, Puppet and/or Ansible, SQL Sentry or any other SQL monitoring tool, External monitoring services like PRTG and Dynatrace, Hashi Corp Consul; OpsGenie, Prometheus and Alert Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain database server and SQL Server KPI monitoring/alerting
  • Chart database use over time to identify scaling opportunities
  • Identify database bottlenecks and take corrective action
  • Suggest modifications/optimizations for tuning T-SQL statements and stored procedures
  • Utilize in-depth query execution plan expertise
  • Use SQL Server query store for performance-related analysis
  • Perform post-incident customer impact analysis and monthly application availability metrics
  • Gather and respond to annual database-related audit evidence
  • Install, configure, and support SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
  • Participate in On-Call rotations
  • Troubleshoot database issues in private datacenters, Azure, and AWS
  • Manage access and maintain backups and integrity checks
  • Participate in off-hours maintenance windows
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance
  • Engage in various projects involving data services
  • Collaborate within a global team environment to accomplish multiple tasks
