About The Position

As a Senior Data Scientist at Sam’s Club, you will bridge the gap between advanced AI capabilities and business strategy. In this role, you’ll help with the efforts to design and apply AI solutions that deliver measurable impact across Asset Protection, Operations, and Product. While grounded in AI/ML innovation, this position focuses on translating complex technologies into practical business outcomes— improving efficiency, strengthening member experience, and driving smarter decision-making. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, the ability to align AI initiatives with enterprise priorities, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams. What Y ou'll Do: Translate business challenges into AI solutions: p artner with stakeholders in Asset Protection, Operations, and Product to understand pain points and opportunities, then design AI approaches that deliver measurable improvements. Leverage AI for business impact: guide the use of AI agents, predictive modeling, and advanced analytics to improve decision-making, streamline workflows, and reduce inefficiencies across supported areas. Integrate with enterprise systems: ensure AI initiatives connect seamlessly with existing tools, systems, and processes, enabling real-world adoption and sustainable impact. Evaluate and govern AI solutions: establish metrics, monitoring, and governance frameworks to ensure solutions are reliable, safe, and ethically applied in business contexts. Build and stand up software and data products independently, demonstrating ownership of the full development lifecycle. Apply foundational machine learning techniques and a working understanding of Generative AI to solve complex, ambiguous problems creatively and effectively. Communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences, presenting problems, hypotheses, and solutions with clarity and business relevance.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and predictive modeling with proficiency in Python programming.
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering, including data pipelines, data quality, and database technologies such as SQL and NoSQL.
  • Expertise in analytical modeling techniques, feature engineering, and model assessment using best practice validation methods.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into data-driven solutions aligned with strategic objectives .
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Experience deploying and scaling analytical models in production environments with attention to sustainability and performance.
  • Excellent collaboration and mentoring skills to guide junior associates and cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of professional experience working as a Data Scientist.
  • Professional work experience with Spark and dashboarding.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of GenAI and AI solutions.
  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models, Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics,
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R,
  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch),
