About The Position

We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) to help redefine the future of Search, Recommendations, and Personalization at Walmart eCommerce. You’ll work on Agentic AI-powered systems that deliver hyper-personalized, context-aware, and scalable experiences to millions of members across Sam’s Club and Walmart platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, and product leaders to design and deploy intelligent systems that understand user intent, optimize discovery, and enhance member satisfaction across digital and in-store touchpoints.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning engineering, preferably in Search, Recommender Systems, or Personalization.
  • Deep understanding of NLP, LLMs, and deep learning architectures (Transformers, BERT, T5, etc.).
  • Experience with Agentic or multi-agent AI systems — building or integrating AI agents that plan, reason, or act autonomously.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with proficiency in TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
  • Experience deploying models at scale using cloud technologies (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and microservices frameworks.
  • Strong grasp of retrieval, ranking, embeddings, and personalization algorithms.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for building intelligent systems that impact millions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build end-to-end ML systems for Search relevance, Recommendation models, and Personalization engines.
  • Develop Agentic AI frameworks that enable autonomous, goal-driven personalization and next-best-action modeling.
  • Build and deploy scalable, low-latency ML services leveraging state-of-the-art infrastructure (Kubernetes, Databricks, Vertex AI, etc.).
  • Apply NLP, large language models (LLMs), and representation learning to understand intent, context, and user preferences.
  • Partner with Data Science, Product, and Engineering teams to drive experimentation, A/B testing, and continuous model improvement.
  • Contribute to model observability, governance, and explainability to ensure responsible AI practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction across the Search & Personalization org.
