About The Position

The Play Data Science and Analytics team works on a variety of challenging data science projects to drive product decisions for Play. This team is truly embedded in the product development lifecycle. We're thought partners from project ideation to experimentation, and our analyses consistently help set strategy for the wider area we work on. Google Play offers music, movies, books, apps and games for devices, powered by the cloud. It syncs across devices and on the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play do everything from engineering our backend systems, to shaping product strategy, to forming great content partnerships. They make it possible for people to do things like buy an ebook or song on their Android phone, then have it instantly available on their laptop. The Google Play team enhances the Android ecosystem by giving developers and partners a premium store where they can reach millions of users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) or 5 years of experience with a Master's degree.
  • Expertise using Causal Inference.
  • Experience with A/B testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience working with Android Apps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis utilizing relevant tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python). Help solve problems, narrowing down multiple options into the best approach, and take ownership of open-ended ambiguous business problems to reach an optimal solution.
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering team, GTM and other Play teams to provide data feed, experiment design and product insights that will improve performance, and ensure proper logging and metrics are available for performance measurement.
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support business reviews with the cross-functional/organizational leadership team. Translate analysis results to business insights or product improvement opportunities.
  • Build and prototype analysis and business cases iteratively to provide insights at scale. Develop comprehensive knowledge of Google data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed.
  • Drive analysis for Play, focusing on product features and user experience across Play Apps.
