About The Position

Walmart Global Tech Applied AI Last Mile team is looking for a passionate Senior Data Scientist to join world's largest retailer to shape the future of retail by working on various Last-Mile related problems. You will have the chance to leverage advanced machine learning and optimization methods to tackle a wide range of real-world problems, such as routing, trip pricing, driver search, driver matching, supply/demand forecast, ETA prediction, incentive strategy, and capacity optimization. This role offers an opportunity to work on large-scale, real-time data pipelines and deploy ML solutions that directly impact millions of customers and drivers. About the Team: Spark Driver Platform operates across all 50 U.S. states, empowering millions of drivers to provide local delivery and making it Walmart's largest local delivery service provider. The Spark Driver Applied AI team is dedicated to enhancing efficiency and profitability by pushing the boundaries of machine learning, data science, and economics. We build highly reliable and scalable production systems that drive the growth of the Spark Driver Platform. Our key focus areas include Capacity Planning, Driver Search, Driver Matching, Driver Offer Pricing, Driver Surge Pricing, Incentive Strategy, ETA Prediction, and GenAI Automation for Driver Support. Requirements

  • Ph.D. or master in Computer Sciences, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or other quantitative fields.
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and optimization.
  • Proven track record of deploying ML models in production, preferably in high-scale environments.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, Java, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or other ML frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, and SQL.
  • Proficiency in MLOps practices, including CI/CD for ML pipelines and model monitoring.
  • Ability to drive projects from conception to production in a fact-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Capability of conducting independent research to keep track of latest development and trend in the industry and academia.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.
  • Option 1- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Build production models on large-scale datasets to help Walmart Last mile business use cases, by utilizing statistical modeling, machine learning and optimization techniques.
  • Build data pipeline from multiple sources and extract data insight with data exploration and visualization techniques.
  • Design, implement, deploy, and scale data science products with consideration of optimality and computation complexity.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including product, engineering, operations team to ensure that our data science product supports Walmart's business objectives.
  • Explore and latest trends of machine learning and optimization techniques to come up with solutions for complex data challenges.
